No, it was actually a Ferrarri and it was a 6 speed... or was it the Batmobile? Oh I can't remember which it was maybe it was an F-18.

 

I've only hit 150 once or twice in the manual before chickening out. I've been in the 140s several times but whenever I reach the 140s my need for speed seems to be quelled by fear.

That being said, I never liked how the automatic was limited at 125. I want to emphasize the word limited, because when you reach 125 when you're driving the automatic, you can actually feel the fuel cutting off. Theoretically I bet it could probably make it into the 140s or so.

I wonder if the 2006 automatic will be limited to the same speed as well or if they will take off the governor.

 

I wonder if going to the AT's "manual" mode does anything. It's probably not worth a try but just my 2cents.

Someone posted a vid of thier 6MT on a dyno. 5th gear hit 152 before hitting the rev limiter and a 6th gear run hitting 184 before hitting the rev limiter.

Several people here have already posted speeds in the high 150's with one guy in germany on the autobahn claiming 159 down a slight incline. He claimed after going into 6th gear it just didn't seem to go anymore. Air resistence seems to be the biggest factor.

i was doing a 157 easily the other day....when i saw the numbers i **** in my pants..... the i realized it was on kph for some reason.....im an idiot lol

but really, my car tops out around 140 - 142 Mph

 

The best I could do was 150 on the track. I don't condone racing or high speed runs on public roads but they do need to be done where it is a controlled environment, which is on the track. Remember the fine print "professional driver, closed course, do not attempt." One wrong move at that speed and you don't crash, you disintegrate.

That is lame, but then again, this is an automatic RX-8. Nearly everyone who buys this car wants performance, and perfers a 6-speed, right? I would almost go as far as to say that if you bought an RX-8 with the AT, you have bought the wrong car.

 

I'm the same way, that is fast... Can you imagion those 1000cc R1's going 160+, and they're on 2 wheels and in the wind... :D

 

i hit 163mph in my 8 when it was stock on an empty highway inbetween las vegas and reno, was still pullin good too, but i let off cause the stearing started getting shaky


-btw i had this road closed for filming purposes at the time so no one could get injured but the driver(me)

 

Unless you were going downhill, that's really not possible. The 8 tops out at 151 due to horsepower not being able to overcome drag.

And there is no governor on the MT.. Just drag limitation.

 

Ok look I was just reading this forum.. And you guys are rediculous.. I'm stationed in Germany.. Station wagons pass you at 145 ok.. It's not coo.. If a car will do it then hell do it.. Why else do you put any kinda of performance parts on your car.. So it will sound coo.. NO! So get over yourself and let people do their thing.. and driving at 176 is a whole lot more fun any how.. i hit 157 w/twin turbo rx8 mine has spoiler felt great at that speed.

 

I've had mine on a nice flat road @ 3am at 167. It started slowing down @ 140 and was crawling after 150 but it was still speeding up.

Must've been one of those Acosta deals.... you know the early release cars that were sent out before the port campaign and all the other crap. They took our turbos out and detuned them after that. Or that's what I heard anyway. :D

I hear ya one night I and a crotch rocket were by eachother having some fun I later looked up the bike (Because all I could remember was what it looked like from behind when I pulled up on it at the start of the night) It was a Suzuki vg 650 and I bailed out on him at 140 something and we were nose and nose till he let off and then I let off.... oh and for the guy against speeding it was only him and I on a straight away..

I am liking my 8 more and more. I just hope this car will last. so does anyone know what's the top speed on this car? i guesstimate is at least 150 mph on a stick :D

 

highest I have taken my 8 was 110, 101 freeway at 3 in the morning right before the coldwater canyon exit (its not the longest straight away, so I could not stomach trying to go faster) but let me tell you ... it felt like i was going 85 the whole way.
