13,000 miles witout a scratch and then...
Decided to take the wife and kids to a movie Friday night. As usual I park in the furthest spot under a light away from all the other cars (wife always grumbles about that). Up to now I've managed to avoid any damage, not a scratch, not a door ding, nothing for just over a year. We get out of the movie, let the kids play a few video games, go out and find the car like this:
No one has seen anything, still no cars parked close to mine, cops have no idea, I'm SOL at this point.
It gets worse, this morning I call my insurance agent. I have a $250 deductible and my premium will go up $180 for the next three years IF I file a claim. Total out of pocket would be $790 if I file a claim!! I HATE insurance companies. So I call my local dealer, list price on an un-painted fender is $240 + about $60 for the clear corner light and I'm into it for $300 in parts before paint. I'm thinking paint has to be over $200, there goes all the money I wanted to spend on mods.
Any suggestions??

Why didn't you take the MPV to the movie theater??? I avoid having to park the 8 in a lot where I either can't see it or have to be gone for a long time... sorry for your misfortune. Someone out there better be feeling real guilty about what they did.

Sorry to see that man. Hard to tell from the picture but was the headlight damaged? Unfortunately you appear to be the victim of a deliberate vandalism. Check if your insurance company will allow a comprehensive claim rather than collision.
ALL insurance carriers share data these days. I had a small flood damage claim on my homeowners and I am a prisoner of my current carrier for 5 years. Every carrier that I shopped refused to even talk because of the claim in the database.

Holy SH*T that sucks. I'm looking at the crumple point and wondering how on earth that could have been done in the first place. Weird how it's so sharply indented in like that. Sorry to see and hear that, oi812. If there's any positive to it, it's that the jackass didn't hurt any other part of the car, like the front fender.

" Why didn't you take the MPV to the movie theater??? " Because the kids asked to go in Dad's. They always think we will get there faster in the RX8 even though I drive the same speed in both (MPV is the best handling minivan out there).
"My stomach turned when I looked at the photo!!" Mine still does when I looked at my car! I had to park with the dammaged side by the wall so I don't have see it for now.
"I would claim insurance and then shop my carrier. You will be able to find a better deal!!" Last time I tried that every company was able to "see" a claim I had about two years ago, they seem to work off of some common claim database or something. I never told them and got lower qoutes at first, but right before changing they would "re-quote" based when they found the old claim.

OUCH! Man that's painful to look at. It pisses me off that too many people won't own up to the things they do.
Lousy frickin' insurance company, grrr. Maybe if you get new insurance, then claim it on your old insurance and drop coverage after they fix it? Just a thought...

SOB! That was deliberate. Looks like a truck of morons must have been on kindergarten outing. My heart bleeds for you.
One suggestion on the insurance, Change your deductible to $500 and that will reduce your payments. I even take mine to $1000 because of things like this that you really don't want to turn in simply because of an increase in you payments. Good luck man.

Dammit! Sorry to hear about (see) that. I worry too, parking or driving amongst the sea of SUVs, when an RX8 could be just a speedbump to them.
A person shouldn't have to live in fear whenever they want to drive their favorite vehicle anywhere, or at any time.
Hopefully, it is only the fender and marker light so the structure isn't compromised in any way.

I would have to agree. The height of the damage would seem to indicate it was the bumper of a truck or suv ( truck like) vehicle.
The only thing is if you let the insurance company take care of it, it will show up on a CarFax report at resale time.

Gosh, sorry man....each and every time I hear stories like this my blood just boils....NO RESPECT!!!!
This is what I suggest...get your insurance to pay for the damages, then ditch them. You pay insurance for situations like this and them telling you that your insurance is going to go up by $180 really smelled bad to me. (while i'm not saying it's not true, the $180 seems a little high for something that was not your fault)
Sorry again...I hope you get it taken care of ASAP, sorry...

Ouch...that sucks a big one. You should go get a couple estimates before you decide what to do. My neighbor backed into my Accord's door one night and that came to 770. Paint + Labor cost more than you think (and more than they should)
