15,000 Mile Review

2004 Yellow loaded 8 purchased new, now with 15,000 miles. Summary to date:

1. No flooding issues at all.
2. 15-18 MPG
3. AC and heated seats - no problem.
4. Stock Potenza tires-good wear- starting to get noisy.
5. Oil consumption- great, not many top offs.
6. Handles like a charm
7. Exhaust- stock and nice hummmmmmmm.
8. No rattles, tight and quick.
9. Dealer painted rotors and replaced door sills.
10. Suspension- still ample, could used larger sway bars.

Over all on a scale of 1-10 (higher better), I have to say a solid 8 (no pun)..A great car and fun to own!!

Nice. Might want to Photoshop out that plate number, however. Can't be too careful these days.

The 8 looks fantastic in yellow. I have the Winning Blue, which I like a little better, but that's merely a personal preference. The car really shines in yellow.

Good deal. My experiences have also been quite favorable, except:

4. OE Dunlops - great tires, no noise.
9. Haven't gotten my hubs painted yet (my bad).
10. To lessen the roll and make it steadier at track speeds, installed Tokico D-Spec shocks.

Personally I'd give it a 9.

That sounds about right, and I'm at 11,435 now. I'd rate it higher than an 8, but this IS my first sports car.

How does it compare with other cars you have driven?

I have a new 2006 C6 and have driven Porsche's and many other sports cars of status..The Rx8 is my favorite all-around sports car to drive.. It is simply a fun car with 4 seats to boot!

Just curious, what evil things can people on the internet do with your license plate number? Hell, people see it every day when you drive around.

My 05 went through 15K mile service two weeks ago at almost one year to the day when I picked it up new. No dealer repairs, whatsoever, and I drive it hard. Oil consuption is minimal, no more so than my Porsche 914-6, and this may be due to keeping the revs low during the break-in period. While the 914-6 is quite primitive, compared to the polished nature of the RX8, they both accelerate like banshees, corner like shifter karts, and the Mazda lets the wife and daughters enjoy the experience too. "Make it growl, daddy!"

Have a friend, very lucky in life, who's has had an eclectic bevy of exotic cars, motorcycles and helicopters over the years, including current stable of Cayenne Turbo S, SL55, Mini S, Aprila 1000 RSV and a very fast and nimble Aerospatiale Gazelle coverted from Canadian military service. With all this exposure to speed and handling prowess, he remains very impressed with the performance and value of my 8. It's a heck of a car, at any price.
