1st to 2nd: slight thud on shifter
There was a thread like this in the "tech garage" sub-forum that I replied to but after no one replied there i decided to bring my issue over here.
I've been experiencing djseto's problems but on second gear. When i go from 1st to 2nd it sometimes feels like the shifter hits or gets stuck on something and then goes in (its actually just like a slight thud that I could feel on the shifter when I push the shifter into 2nd). This is with the clutch all the way down and only when going from 1st to 2nd gear. I'm not sure if I pull alot to the left when going into second gear like w0rm said but next time i drive i'll try going into 2nd without pushing to the left much. Keep in mind that my 8 is brand new (less than 200 miles) and I don't drive it harshly at all. thanks for any suggestions

I've also noticed this. It seems to be more noticable during the first few shifts before the car is warmed up. I thought about taking it to the dealer, but it doesn't seem to be getting any worse, so I assumed it was something they all did. Mine only has 3000 miles on it, so I'll just keep an ear out for any changes.

I have Red Line too, it made no difference. This is so commonly reported, I believe it to be universal.....most six speed manuals suffer from this problem, I reckon. My car is a RHD, and the pull to the left theory while shifting that some think is the cause, doesn't hold up for me. The snag is inherent in the design, I believe.
Maybe the next generation RX-8 will have this problem solved.

Whew! Thanks for the info, I thought i had a serious problem on my hands. I guess I'll just have to get used to it then. I'm just happy I don't have to make a trip to the dealer (for now)...
