1st Post! Former 7 owner getting an 8... New (05) or used?

Howdy!

Hey guys, coming from the RX7Club.
Former owner of a 1989 RX-7 GTU.

I've recently recieved a decent promotion, and a nice bonus, and will hopefully be the new owner of a RX-8. I already purchased another FC3S as a project car, but will be track only. The RX-8 will be my daily driver. Have to keep rotor faith

Anywho, I'm just now starting all my research on the RX8, but figured some of you guys could chime in. I've heard of problems with ECUs, fuel mapping, etc etc. However I don't know if possibly the first run of 8s had suspension problems, or something of that nature. Are the 05s (or 06s yet?) coming out better? I've always heard never to buy the first model production year.

Also wondering when they're going to come out with a mazdaspeed edition, if they even are. Would be awesome. Not expecting any kind of foreced induction... but who knows.

Thanks guys, and

As a fellow 2nd Gen. RX-7 owner, welcome to the club. You'll be quite amazed with what Mazda has done with our little Wankel wonder over the years.

You can find discussions of the problems and recalls in the Tech Garage under Issues. Just remember that the there is a large silent majority of owners that have *no* issues with the car. For example, the suspension recall is a result of two failures in Japan (IIRC) and the odds of a problem on a U.S. car are very slim.

And just like the RX7forum, you'll be politely requested to search.

Welcome. Get one and don't worry about the problems. They're way overblown. Take it from a former 7 owner (see sig)

I'm more worried about previous owners not breaking the car in correctly, or taking advice from dumbass salesmen live I've heard (oh yeah, they redline at like 10,000, 11,000 RPM) even though the tach goes to what... 10K? 9K redline?

Wow... well... sorry for being the "repost queen" already...

Of course after making this thread, I find this thread titled " 2005 vs. 2004 RX-8 issues and problems"

I bought mine right off the truck still shrink wrapped Part of the prebuy. I'm a first time rotary owner, but I have been following the cars over the years. I could not be happier. Zero problems with my '04 in the last 31,000 miles.

If you could swing it, buy a new one - nothing better than breaking it in yourself.

A tad over 1 year of owning one, 9500 miles = no problems.

This is the first rotary I've owned, after years of lusting over the 7's from day 1. You won't regret your purchase.
