I call BS. The reengineering required to convert the RX-8 to a piston engine would be far too extensive to be anywhere close to feasible. The RX-8 was designed around the rotary engine; the packaging requirements of a piston engine are completely different from that of a rotary engine.

For what it's worth, the RX-8 is sold in China, but only as a Japanese import. There is no Chinese domestic market produced RX-8 like there is for the 6. The RX-8 isn't selling all that well in China, but that's expected as the Chinese are much more into luxury cars and the ones that could blow money on a sports car would rather get something like a Ferrari. And yes, I am from China.

Wow I didn't know you are so knowledgable about China.

How can you say "chinese dont like fast cars as much". Isnt that lumping the entire country of people into one obligatory statement? Thats like saying "all americans eat McDonnalds" or "all americans like to drive big SUVs and dont care much about the gas milage".

The only thing I can even remotely associate with this is that most insurance companies list the Mazda RX-8 as a 3.0L. They do this to basically make it look like a 6 cylinder where the feel it should be classified.

The insurance companies most have caught up. When I bought mine in 04 and got insurance, they listed it as a 3.0L.

The person paying 2k a year must be young or have a lot of tickets.

Thats cool rx7! I will be traveling next door to Japan this year. Im looking forward to being taller lol. Anyway, forgot to mention that a cheap car like a 2000 focus was only 300$ cheaper, but I didnt need the high no insurance liability.

They import a Rx8 from japan and sell it for around 500,000 RMB (about 60,000 USD). If they produce it in China, they can avoid some taxes and sell it for 380,000 RMB (48,000 USD). And they can make a piston engine much cheaper, for that they can sell it for under 200,000 RMB(25,000 USD). Chinese people don't care too much about the performance, but like the style. 200,000 RMB is what people can aford and they can get bigger market on the piston engine. The rotary will be save for the rich people who realy like the rotary.
I KNEW I WASNT CRAZY OR ON CRACK!!!

On topic, I highly doubt China cares about emissions enough to do such a thing.

Now if they could somehow manage to stuff the MS3 engine in the 8 with only giving up a little in handling, I'd be all over it.
