Of course this is you car and you should do whatever you feel is right; but others reading this forum shouldn't be under the impression that this is a necessary practice for maintenance - far from it. It's not necessarily that your hurting something - but you are almost definitely applying unneeded strain to your car.
You're probably right. I'll probably cut back on doing that and look for another method. Overprotective I guess...

First, thanks to all for taking the time to provide answers to us lower life forms that have not yet reached the state of Zen RX8 Master.

Next....
come on you knew the questions would follow the pat on the back right

4 ports and 6 ports engine all have 2 ports opened at all times. But at 3750RPM everyone has 2 additionnal ports that open. For the 4 ports engine well, that's 4 ports opened, end of story. For 6 ports however, you've still got 2 more ports to go (called auxiliary ports) that open later on.

I really feel a clarification needs to be made on whats an apple and whats an orange. I thinking the rx8 6-port engine has the following:
*two exhaust ports
*ONE primary intake port
*ONE secondary intake port
*ONE auxiliary intake port

As you can see my port numbers don't add up to six thus I'm not understanding something correctly. This is the first part I'm confused about. I printed out the graphics from this thread https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/does-mazda-say-periodic-high-rpm-good-138317/ post #17 and simply looked for any arrows that ended in the word 'port'. This makes me think we are not taking about just intake/exhaust ports (or if so I'm missing one) but maybe other types of things related to ports...such as...

SSV secondary shuttler valve (two each), opens at 3750
VFAD variable fresh air duct (one), opens at 5500
APV auxiliary port valve (two each), opens at 6000
VDI variable dynamic effect intake system (signle item), opens at 7250

So enlighten me o'zen masters, what they heck are the 6 ports in my 2007 rx8?
thanks

My understanding is that the 6 ports are in reference to the 6 intake ports. 2 primary, 2 secondary and 2 auxiliary.

Thanks DeViL0i...
indeed that makes more sense and if I look at the graphics again in that other thread I do now realize that, though there are no arrows to the second ports, indeed there are two primary and two secondary ports instead of one of each.

Thus this whole thing about ports opening at different rpms is not really the same as intake/exhaust ports per say but rather ports and valves that open as the rpm ranges up go.

So, a SSV valve opens first (just gives more gas or air I assume) then the VFAD opens which the graphic said is a 'fresh air duct' (more air thus more power no doubt), next comes the APV (not a clue what the heck that does for us), and last the VDI intake (again maybe more air/fuel). All of which all, once we hit the magic 7250 rpm range, allows more carbon to burn off.

Hopefully I still don't have to consider/track/perform a wot routine as well. Keep it simple works for me...so long as I can understand what 'simple' is.

thanks
