2 tone interior - love it or hate it?

I can't quite get a handle on how the 2 tone interior will look? Will it look sporty or gaudy? I've never really cared for red or black leather interiors. I personnally like a lighter tan leather but that's not an option. I have mixed emotions on the 2 tone seats/interior. For those who have actually seen the red/black interior what do you think? For me, since I'll be getting a black or silver exterior it's either all black or black/red (I REALLY don't like the black/brown - it's more brown than tan - combo).

When it comes to colour, its very much like what your topic said ' love it or hate it'.
It's a very subjective topic, everybody has they own likings with colours. Personally I love the black and red colour combo for the interior and to a certain extend I detest the brown/tan leather colour, these colour only belongs to the classic, elegance class of vehicals.
That's why cars like Jag, Benzs normally comes with tan interiors and Ferraris and Alfas comes in red/black combos.
The RX-8 has a very sporty image, thus it suits a red/black interior more so than the tan interior. In worst case scenario stay with black. You can hardly goes wrong with that.

DaveL,

I agree with everything M-ster has to say.

Not to sound redundant, but...

I also agree that the RX-8 has a very sporty image, and a two-tone interior fits it nicely. If the yellow had the two-toned black/yellow interior, I might have gone with that, but Mazda made it easier for me to decide, so I chose the red with the black/red interior. I wanted a sporty interior for what I thought was a sporty car.

I don't think the black/tan interior goes well with the black or the silver. I think it only looks great in the green, good on the titanium. If you don't like the black/brown, definately don't get it. If you want to go "sportier" and don't mind the black/red interior, then it will definately look fantastic on the silver or black. That interior looks best with the black, red, and silver exteriors. If you are undecided, then get the standard black interior. Can't go wrong with that.

Happy deciding.

I was psyched prior to ordering to be going after a yellow car with the yellow interior highlights. When the pre-order finally came around the limitation on the colors almost tanked ordering the car altogether for me. I still got the yellow, but I'd be far happier with the yellow and black interior.

I think the color highlight option matching the exterior was a great concept. Where the heck did that brown option come in and why did they canx the rest of it other than red?

I have thought about the yellow on the wheel and realized it'd probably be hard to keep clean enough to look good. But it was still one of three major selling points for me. Others being the rotary and the back seat.

Edge,

I agree. I strongly feel that Mazda should have kept the black/blue and the black/yellow interiors. I believe that would have made strong selling points. IMO, Mazda just wanted to get the car out, appealing to the majority, and trying to save cost. I think we'll see the other two interior color options in the future.

I too was drawn to the Lightning Yellow with the two-toned interior. I was a little disappointed when I found out I couldn't get that option. I like the Velocity Red with the black/red just as well, so I went with that. The yellow and blue would take more care to keep it clean. My red will be the same way. If I clean it regularly, it will be no problem.

my rx8/7 will be black no matter what. The black/red is inticing but i'd prolly go with all black. You can always have the interior redone later.

I'm getting black on black leather in my Velocity Red RX8. I decided against the red/black interior because I was concerned about how well the red leather matched the red body color. There will likely be quite a difference between the shiney red body and the not-shiney red leather. There is also the faux-leather (vinyl?) on the doors and other side panels. That will look different too.

I was also concerned about how well the red leather will "age". As time goes on, the leather will get somewhat dirty, worn and it will definitely fade a bit. The Burgandy Red leather of my 81 RX7 changed dramatically over time. Some portions became bright red, some faded to a brownish color. The seats stayed pretty much the original color but the interior trim pieces bleached out to different extents.

I felt that black might fade to a gray, and probably wouldn't look too bad a few years down the road. Besides, its easy to find replacement black materials. Try to match a five year old red with something new.

The red on the steering wheel will also get very dirty due to your hands grabbing it right where the red is placed. The red is not going to look so nice unless you spend a lot of time keeping things clean.

It was the pre-production yellow that really caught my eye too. Bit disapointed when that wasn't actally an option. Even the Blue/Black would have been cool, but since they never made a mock-up, even in a pre-production car with that combo, that wasn't a let down. It's all about two-tone, otherwise I would have gone yellow with all black interior.
