2004 Mazda Rx8
Hey guys,
I was wondering if this is a good idea or not. My dealership has a 2004 Mazda Rx8 with 62,000 miles, leather seats, navigation, spoiler, and it's a 6 speed. The cost of the car for me is $12,600.00, would you guys buy it?

Excellent price...watch out for 04's though. Drive the **** out of that thing on a long test drive...then decide. Anything could be ready to go at that mileage. Regardless of the price.

What about doing an engine compression test just to be sure? I wouldn't trust that the owner kept it in pristine condition and treated it right. Remember, you are just out of warranty at 62,000 miles. Can you purchase an extended warranty?

Wouldn't an inspection of the log books, upgrades and owner history be more worth while....?

i picked up an o4 with the same miles this last august. Just make sure you get the extended warrenty for a peace of mind.
I'm currently getting my engine replaced under the warranty. Biggest issue is you don't know how it was handled in the previous 40-50k miles.
Best of luck!

Great price! Before you buy it, ask to see the complete maintenance report on it from the dealership. They should be able to pull everything done to it at a Mazda dealership even if the maintenance was completed at another dealer. This report is best for finding out if recalls have been done and if there have been any major issues.

Deal or no Deal
It's a Yellow 8, so it was on their lot for about 5 months. They reallly wanted to move it, so i got it for 15k with them paying the Extended warranty. "Supposedly cost 2000.00"
Oddly enough it has the sports package & nav, but no leather seats.. which i think works out best. I'm eyeing the 08/09 new seats that might be coming out

I got my car at a lincoln dealer, and they had an extended warranty through another vendor, but i made sure it could be covered at the Mazda Dealer, and not by Warranty vendors preference... oh yeah and made sure it was included on their cost

On that car, $2k is a pretty fair price for a REAL 3yr 36k B-B. By Real, I mean Mazda Care. All other warranties should be "buyer beware" at a maximum of 60% of a comparable factory plan. IF I were to pay for a warranty, they would not be pulling parts out of junkyards to place in my car. Good luck getting new factory parts without a factory backed warranty.

I think I'm going to get it. I have it overnight to see how it drives and everything. My extended warranty is $800.00 for two years so it's not too bad. It's going to cost me the same amount of money as the car I currently drive now, which is a 2006 Pontiac G6 coupe. The carfax is good and it's only had one owner. the surprising thing is that there's not a scratch or dent on it.

$12,600 for an RX8? Wow, what a deal. As long as the 8 has been taken care of and all the recalls have been done, the rotary should last you a very long time. It has fewer moving parts than a piston engine, meaning less parts can break. Theoretically, the rotary should last longer than most other engines.
My 8 has a little less than 70k on it, and is still running as strong as the day I bought it.

Yup, card is in my wallet... and i'm inbed now typing this. But the 8 is at Everett Mazda Right now, and they placed the order for the replacement. I'm sure it's gunna be one of the refurbs that they build now in the U.S. I double checked the fine print on the Warranty company and i'm getting OEM parts. I just have to pay the 100.00 deductable, and parts that are considered normal wear. (Alternator Belt, Accessory belt) I'm tempted to have them do the pulleys since it's out.... i need to make sure my wife doesn't kill me also I'm still trying to convince her it's a 4door....

(Just keep in mind I own an RX7, not an 8, so I'm not speaking from personal experience.) :-P
Cheers,
