2004 RX Auto Specs?
Hey whats up guys?
I have a friend who is interested in buying the rx8 in an auto. Can anyone point me to some specs on the car? Such as: 0-60 and 1/4 40-60 60-80,. etc?
Any help will be appreciated.

One of the better reviews I've found:

Last but not least: STUDY THIS FORUM!
Who knows how many hours(days) I've spent lurking around here before coming on my decision to purchase an RX8. Now I just can't wait ;D

The 0-60 time for the automatic -- w/o doing anything that abuses the shitty transmission it has -- is typically around 8 - 8.3 seconds and thats only if youdrive in tiptronic mode.
However if you are okay w/minimal abuse you can completely disable the traction control systems and perform a brake rev launch, which some people say gets their automatic Rx8s to 60 in 7.8 seconds but mine doesnt seem to be one of them as Idont see any improvement in my times w/that method.
Additionally ifyou do a neutral slam from say... 5000 RPM at launch (which is very a abusive thingto do to the weak automatic transmission the automatic Rx8 has) - then some people think that its possible to getthis car to 60 in plus or minus 7.6 seconds but Istill have my doubts about that. Furthermore..to be in any way succesful w/this procedure, youd have to: put the car into neutral, hold the gas and immediately drop into drive after you have the car at whatever desired RPM, and THEN quickly push the stick left in order to go into tiptronic mode so youcan redline.
Now if youre seriously willing to do all of that work w/an automatic transmission (not to mention the mild damage your car and tires), to POSSIBLY achieve a not-very-respectable 7.6 second 0-60 time, then youre obviously better off getting the car inmanual. Autos arent designed to be driven like that and I certainly willnot be the guinea pig on the forum who findsout how long our trannies could sustain that typeof abuse.
Also justso you know, the only way to get the tires to chirp or burn out w/the automatic is by a neutral slam as well. And the OEM tires already have a short enough treadlife as it is.
Overall if hesinterested in things like 0-60 and 1/4 mile then hes definitely looking at the wrong version of this car.

well if your friend is only looking for a "looker" car without having the urge to do any track time, then the rx8 should be perfect (kinda like the audi TT before it came out with an automatic, a lot of ppl wanted it for the looks but can't drive manual).
Also, regardless of the transmission, the HANDLING (which is the selling point for this car for most people) is the exact same zen-like perfection.
But yea, acceleration would be lagging and if your friend goes out to long drives with other ppl, he might have a harder time keeping up cause of the redline limited (only 7200) top speed for the automatic
