2004 RX8 with 2010 engine...

I'm going to look at a 2004 RX8 that had a new engine
(and clutch) installed in 2010. I've already looked at a
few, and done some research, but is there anything
specific I should look for or be concerned about with a
re-engined car?

Any thoughts on whether this raises or
lowers the value (I'd think raise)?

Is the engine a 2010 rx8 engine, or a reman of the series 1 engine that was installed in 2010? Your title and your post dont really make it too clear.

All I know at this point was that the engine was replaced under Mazda Canada factory warranty in August 2010. What would be normal for a warranty replacement, a reman series 1 or a 2010 engine? Any way to tell by visual inspection or looking at the paperwork?

It will be a series 1 re-man.
Things I would have checked before buying would be.....................have them do a compression check which should yield three numbers on each rotor and should be done at ~250rpm's.
Then I'd take a look at the condition of the CAT.
Sometimes they use new coils on an engine swap and sometimes not, so I'd want to know how old those are as well.

Very good info guys. The re-man engines don't seem to have a great reputation. That's not what I expected at all. The car has 128,000 kms on it, and the re-man engine warranty goes until 160,000, and since I do about 5,000 kms a year I'd have some safety margin under the warranty.

Still, tough decision, I'm going to try and look at a very low mile (35,000 kms/21,000 mile) 2004 today as well. Both are priced similarly.

Thanks for the help guys, took a look at the car tonight. Turns out as well as having the engine and clutch replaced, it also had a new transmission installed not long ago. So a very new drivetrain. I'm sending it for a compression check this week to check the engine health, if that's OK I'll make an offer.

Less than the asking price, or zero if it fails the compression test...the ask is $12.9 canadian.

The warranty should be 8 year / 100k miles(160k km's), so even at 5k miles a year the time will run out before you get the miles up.

Seller pulled out of the deal after the compression
check. He refunded the cost of the compression
check. The search continues.
