2004 Switchblade (Flip) Key?

I just ordered this switchblade key from eBay....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-0...spagenameZWDVW

I was searching the forums and some people said that you need 2 keys to be able to program the new key and some people said that you just needed 1. I bought my 8 like a week ago (Very happy fun to drive) and it only came with one key.

Is there a way I can program it with just one key?

So if I needed another master key I would have to go to the dealer to get one?

You don't have to buy a third key, but the dealer will have to program your second one (the swichblade you just bought).

There are many posts about programming switchblade keys on 04's, search for them. It's the same as any other key.

Srry for posting so late but when I asked my local mazda dealer, they said that there was no way to program 05 switchblade key to the 04 RX8.

They said that the wireless remote would not lock, unlock, alarm, or open the trunk?

Is that true?

EDIT: And is programming the 05 switchblade key the same way you would program the 04 key? (The wireless remote I mean)

If we all have not learned anything about Mazda dealers from Chrism's Tradegy. They want to sell you the key at their cost and programming cost. Its all in which the way you present them. Tell them other people you know have gotten it programmed. Either you tell me you can do it or can't. If not I'll pay another dealer thanks!

I went to get mine programmed, and they programmed the key for the car. I asked if the buttons would work and they go...well no we didnt set it up for that. After i bitched a little bit, he just got in the car and like 10 seconds later the buttons worked. It cant be all that hard and I dont know why the dealership is giving you such a hard time.

mine is 04 and i just got the switchblade key a few months ago. i'm too lazy to repeat the discussions made so here's the link:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/swtich-blade-key-04-a-147913/

and FYI, the remote buttons for unlocking/locking car & opening trunk can be programmed without the dealers help. it's only the key recognition that you'd need them for in case you only have one working key.

question tho: do you guys think it'd be safe to post the directions on programming the remote? was wondering if it might be a security issue for our cars if we have it posted here...

Yup only got one key when I got the car so I cant do it myself.

I got the remote in the mail today and it looks kool.

I am bout to go to work ATM, but I'm gonna go to mazda tomorrow and get it programmed. Ill let you know if it works. (Which it should unless the guys at my mazda are complete retarded.)

IT WORKED!!!!! So here is what happened...

Here are the steps that will get you a switchblade (flipkey) for an 04 RX8.

1. Buy a switchblade key on eBay. (An OEM key. If it states that it is for the 05 RX8, it will work in the 04 RX8.)

2. After you receive you key, go to mazda and talk to one of there service people.

3. They will tell you that the 05 switchblade key will not work for the 04 RX8.

4. Complain and tell them that they are wrong. (I had to do this for like 10 mins.)

4. They will tell you that if it doesn't work you won't get your money back. (Agree to this)

5. They will tell you to wait in the lounge, while they program the key. (Programming the 04 key-wireless remote is the same way as programming the 05 key-wireless remote.)

6. After programming (which will work), they will feel really stupid and your gonna feel really good.

7. Pay them and drive off.

My key does everything. Alarm, unlock doors, locks doors and open the trunk.

Well thats it. Lemme know if you guys have any questions.

Cheers!!!
