I asked and almost stained my pants. The guy told me its about $250 to have the key made for the 8 then an additional $75 for programing it to my car.

I'm going to see if I can just buy the uncut switchblade keys from ebay for $5 and have walmart make a copy using my 04 key since it doesnt have a chip. Then find the programing method and do it myself.

I didnt find the method/technique to do it but I'm sure there's one out there. There's always a chance it wouldn't work, but I'd find the method before buying it.

SPEAKING OF THAT...

My key fob recently died so I have to use the key itself to lock/unlock which is annoying. Yes I replaced the battery, yes the right one, yes put it in correctly but it still does not work. Any ideas?

It can be done very easily. I have an '04 with a switchblade key. I bought the used remote portion from ebay and bought a key blank online. Programming is very simple, but you need spare keys to do it. Details are here:

You can do it that way, but if you have 2 keys already, you can program the new key yourself after you have it cut. I had mine cut at home depot for free (they only charge you for the blanks).

actually man, I was in ur same situation. and i asked my local dealer if they would be able to program a switchblade remote to my 2004. they said there was no way. but there is. just go to the tech forum, diy subforum, and go to the thread that organizes all the mods for diy. one of them is coding a 05 key to an 04.

o, and my switchblade is waiting for me at home...gonna get it in a few days and try to program it with my two keys and no working remote

I have an '04, and I bought the uncut key & remote...brought it to the dealer, and they cut it & programmed it for $80. I was in the same boat as you with only one key

Whats the difference between a 2004 switchblade key and the 2005? I've got a 2005 one but want a backup.

I think it's the exact same key. The '04 didn't come with a switchblade key

It's been a while since I've driven an 05+. I'll be ordering my blade key soon too cuz I have an 04. All the uncut keys I see for sale on ebay dont have a trunk release button. They have the panic, lock, unlock. Is that all the other blade keys have or should there be a trunk button as well???

That's what i did. When i bought my car it only came with one set of keys. So i bought a blank switchblade key off of ebay and then took to the dealer and they cut and programmed it. I think they charged me like 80 dollars.
