2004 vs 2005 .. Any changes? Trim questions

Hey I am new here and am looking to get an rx8. I found one 2004 that I like, and a 2005. Priced the same, and similar mileage.

I'm wondering if Mazda changed anything for the 05?

Also. They both have the leather 2 tone seats, but in the pictures for the 2005 I dont see the switches for the heated seats and I thought that every model with the leather seats came with heated seats and a sunroof (every model I saw did).

So me questions..

What did Mazda do differently in the 05 vs the 04.
and in the 2005 models, if they have the leather seats, are they all heated seats and with a sunroof, or do some of them not come with those 2 options?

(Canada)

Thanks~!

read the stickies. 4 posts up in the stickies is this one

Sticky: Spec Decks, Color Charts and Pricing for each year 2005-2010

there were differences between trim models US vs. Canada but what you're asking isnt one of them

AC condenser screen added; New starter and battery; Master cylinder changed, ECU updated to 32 bit version
Is what I see as the differences. Thanks, how about the heated seats/sunroof issue? Because the ad I'm looking at is a 2005 red rx8 with leather seats, but in the pictures I dont see the heated seat switches and Its hard to see if there is a sunroof or not

if it doesnt have the switches then the leather was added later and its not a GT it would be a Canadian GS

http://www.canadiandriver.com/2005/0...al-edition.htm

If the RX-8 SE is a little too flashy for your liking, there are two other trim packages available, the GS and GT. The GS arrives with manually-adjustable cloth seats as standard equipment, but the rest of the list is generous.

For the relatively low price of $36,895, the RX-8 offers luxuries such as cruise control, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, air conditioning, power locks and windows, remote keyless entry, engine immobilizer, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Safety features such as four-wheel anti-lock brakes, front and side-curtain airbags, fog lights and headlight cleaners are also standard.

Stepping up to the GT ($39,695) adds heated leather seating surfaces (two-tone on certain colours), an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror, anti-theft alarm system, auto-levelling Xenon headlights and Mazda’s capable dynamic stability and traction control. A limited-slip rear differential is standard on all manual transmission cars, as well as on the automatic-equipped GT. If you need to feel the wind in your hair, a power moon roof is available as an option ($1,000), as is a navigation system ($3,000).
sorry it took so long to reply- it took me a minute thirty to google that.

Thanks guys! Its a red rx8 ... I just didn't assume whoever owned it before would have went out and got the red and black two tone leather and swapped it in.

I dont think the seats were swapped in...
Look at the interior shots, the car is originally a two tone interior

Your link says GT offers two tone, but this car is two tone. But is is missing the heated seats, sunroof, and power seats.
Strange, is it a mix of GS and GT? lol

The passenger side dash panel above the glove box and on the side towards the center stack has a ginormous indentation in it and looks to me like a red flag.

You need to find out what that's all about.

Ooh thanks, I just noticed that! I'm wondering if the airbag had previously deployed.
And what is that thing right beside the e-brake to the right of it? I see a black wire attached to something grey

this is what the tone tone looks like? Did you try to put an image? I cant see it.

And the steering wheel is the normal two tone, there is just a red and black cover over it that I think was bought from walmart or something. And the mats probably were too

Correct me if Im wrong zoom, but didnt the OEM two tone also have a red e-brake lever and red shift ****.

This looks like it was swapped (seats and panels). Which is okay, but make sure it wasnt in a previous accident..

Anyone know what the thing to the right of the e-brake is? I see a wire sticking out and its attached to something grey.

He told me there have been no accidents but that piece over the passenger side airbag concerns me since it looks dented

you can tell if its been repainted. Run your fingers along the seems between panels and itll feel like sandpaper if its been repainted. The OEM finish will feel smooth. Also pop the hood and look to see if anything looks crooked or repainted, etc..

If you go at night, have them pull the car into the service drive to view the car under flourecent (sp?) lights. They usually can expose mismatched paint, believe it or not.

As for that thing by the ebrake lever, no clue. When you go to see the car, follow the wire. Maybe its for an ipod connection

that looks to be me like an original 2tone theme. the ebrake did NOT come as 2tone, at least not in the US...my 2tone has a black ebrake. and the steering wheel in that picture IS factory 2tone...it just has a cheap 2tone cover over it, presumably because the owner wanted a thicker feeling steering wheel...you can see the oem wheel underneath it. as for the mats, maybe they just wanted rubber ones instead of carpet.

and like renesis said, follow the wire...that is not stock, so just take off that cover and see where it leads. or better yet look at the actuall end of it...could be for ipod, etc., or a switch for something...who knows.

Is a 2005 less likely to fail than a 2004? (with proper engine upkeep)

Many of these questions have been asked on this forum. Eventually you will need to learn how to search the forum.

In your first post you mentioned Canada. I assume cause it's a canadian car and you are in Canada. If this is the case, you can go to your local MTO and get a Used Vehicle Info Package. It costs $20 but it will tell you what kind of title the car is under. All you need is the VIN #. The UVIP saved me twice from getting suckered into a seemingly good deal. First had a lein on the car, and the second had been rebuilt.
Zoom44 also has a good idea of bringing the VIN into a Mazda dealer to check out what options it was purchased with. I'd also recomend getting a mechanical done by a Mazda dealer before commiting to buy, esspecailly in a private sale situation.

looks as though someone swapped in the two tone seats and just swapped over tha manual seat rails. the steering wheel and door panels being two tone was prpbably swapped in as well. the previous owner must have purchased all of the parts needed for the swap.
