'06 Mazda Rx8 plans?

Anyone know what they are planning on doing for the '06 RX8 Model? Increase in torque/horsepower/turbocharging? If anyone has any idea i would be very grateful because im currently deciding on waiting it out for this car to just have little more pepp in it.

No one knows for sure and they didn't show anything at the Detroit auto show. They might make a MazdaSpeed version available but it won't have more power, I beleive.

Actually--that is contrary to all of the rumours from magazines. The latest rumours have the USDM Mazdaspeed RX8 boosted--but nothing is certain. Other rumours have the '06 see the introduction of a 5spd auto as well as an SMG available for the 6-port.

I am waiting till September when the 06's should arrive. I was told that they will be releasing info on the 06's probably around August. The reason I haven't bought one yet is because I would rather get the rumoured SMG than the manual and also since its a fairly new car, its a good idea to wait for all the bugs to be worked out.

I just picked up the latest R & T Speed edition. The lead article is for a Mazdaspeed RX8 that's supercharged. Estimated HP is 275.

We can dream can't we?

i want to point out a thing abotu the MY. ever since i started really watching the developement of the Mazda6 and the RX8 the dates have been off by a year at least. mainly i think because when mazda leaks a date like 2006 then mean in the year 2006 not for MY USA 2006. dont expect to see an SMG tranny later this year.

I thnk if they did boost the car they obviously will do it under the badge of mazdaspeed, I would also assume they would sell the kits to have they dealer install on to your car like they do with all the mazda speed stuff out there.

I doubt the part about selling the parts--the suspension bits but not the kits. To my knowledge you cannot by a mazdaspeed turbo for a regular Miata or Protege; besides Mazdaspeed turbo applications are usually conservative--by then there will be more than enough aftermarket turbo offerings that will give more performance for the dollar.

The guy at my dealership said that there's nothing big planned for '06 in terms of pumped up engine performance. Maybe '07?

They have to do something to the car in the next year or two. Sportscars now routinely getting 300 hp. There is just too much differential between 235 and 300. Just thinking......

Agreed. It will happen. It has to happen. Hopefully it is something we can buy and bolt on to our engines!

Yea, I will wait up to two years to hear some news. I plan to put about 20K down on a new car (new RX7 if news is out, or MS RX8) And keep about 2k for upgrades. But yea, Mazda is alot like Nintendo, they do not like to let the cat of the bag...for a very very long time...

I think someone said here months ago that the '06 was supposed to be the year that the Mazdaspeed version comes to the US. That, or the they're going to do away with the low-power auto version of the enginge and promote it to a high-power auto. I can't remember. '06 might also be the year that constitutes the mid-life of the RX-8, which would signal cosmetic changes to the exterior. I know I've heard all of that from somewhere, but take it for what it's worth because I'm studying for the bar exam right now and my brain is absolutely fried.

Dealer was saying the 06 will have a change to the rear of the car but interior will be the same as we have currently in ours. No big change power wise but would be nice and really good if we can bolt it up to ours to get more power!!!

already seen the 06 auto's at Sevenstock8, no exterior changes that I could tell, the new Galaxy grey is nice, the new leather is much nicer than the current leather in terms of feel.

6spd auto's rather than 4, with the 6port engine so the 212hp number looks to be true. Should be more fun to drive now. I'm pretty sure the MS8 will be a 2007 model if it comes (meaning it would come out in late 2006), remember the 2004 8 came out during 2003.

rotary news said that the 2006 rx8 will be released in mid november. there would be an option for the interior and exterior, like the beige leather seats and high metallic exterior paint. it also will have better suspensions for better handling. and thats pretty much all i know

The first one is... teal? Hm... they could have selected a better new color for sure.
The second one appears to be very similar to the current titanium grey - what's the point?

i work at a mazda dealership and we get monthly magazines by mazda about car updates and they said that the 06 rx8's will "be a late launch.....after the first of the year..."

i personally have the date set with my salesman friend to order my 06 on december 23rd.

the old titanium grey is out, now the car can come in galaxy gray and a new red will be available as well. yes, the auto becomes a 6 speed with the high power engine and all grand touring models will have optional "smartkey" entry and start systems.

the smartkey will be available for sport and touring modles only by special order.....which is mine........
