2006 Rx-8
I lost my RX-8 in Hurricane Wilma (FLOOD)... I still love my car and want another. Can anyone tell me if I should wait for the 2006 or just shop for a 2005?
Are there going to be any changes in the 2006 model?
I had a 2004 silver 6spd with 11k on it.

You don't need to insert the key to run the car. The key just has to be within about 3-6 ft. of the keyswitch (RFID module actually - which is mounted in the steering column). This allows remote starting without disabling the security features. The car still has the "vehicle immobilizer", where you need the correct chip to enable the injectors. It's just now integrated further into the starting system.
You need to start shopping now to see what clearance prices are like in your area. Once the new cars are here you can look at them and decide if the minor differences in the manual are worth the difference between the "new car price" and the "clearance car price". If you're considering an automatic, I'd go for the new 6 speed. I haven't driven one (yet), but it looks tempting on paper! Strong words for a dedicated manual trans. man!

sticky https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/us-2006-model-year-info-75344/. you dont have to use the key to open the door or start the car. there is a cover over the ignition that gives you something to turn. the cover can be removed to use the key if needed. you dont even have to push a button on the fob to unlock. just get close enough with the card in your pocket.

Wow I feel bad for you man. No point in crying over spilled milk...but why did you leave your RX-8 in Key West instead of heading north? Or what about dropping it off in a garage with multiple stories like I did?
Didn't think the storm was going to hit us this bad?

I agree... Galaxy Gray looks really nice. My neighbor had a Ti Gray ( until he traded for a blue Evo IX) and they had a Galaxy Gray 8 at the Tokyo Motorshow. It's kinda a bluish-gray and looks really smooth. I'd get an 8 that color.

Something is up. Originally we were told we could order them in October. Once October rolled around, they changed the target ordering date to December. I wonder if they are having Job #1 launch issues.

I don't think we can say yet if the auto has the "high power" or "six port" engine. Can we? 212 HP over 195 HP may be attainable with "tuning". I wish they had done a 9000 RPM torque converter!
I suspect the "launch issues" are the inventory in US dealerships. No point in rushing a new shipment that will make the previous model less desirable when there are lots of the previous model left to sell.
