2007 Turbo?
First off, I did do a search and didn't find the answer...
I heard from a guy who claims to talk to the Mazda Factory guys that the 2007 will be a twin turbo - with 400 hp. As much as I'd love that to be true (except what it'd do to the value of my '04), I just had to call BS.
I heard from a Mazda sales rep (and we know they're usually last to know anything) that the '07 would be supercharged.
So, anyone heard anything more definitive either way?

a friend of mine who works for mazda says that they recieved a twin turbo rx8 along with a japanese instructor to show and teach them about the car. So there is definately a twin turbo rx8, but no specs/hp yet and there isnt a release date on it, but most likely it'll be out in a year.

The Turkish Delight
I was talking to the owner of my local Mazda dealer and he told me that the regional Mazda Rep brought up an FI RX-8 for 07 or 08. Didn't know anything further than that though.

Well, I heard from a friend, who heard from his friend, who's got an uncle or something who also knows someone who works for Mazda who overheard a couple engineers talk about the new project they were going to be working on, or heard they were going to be working on, and it had something to do with the RX-8, and he thinks he heard something about a turbocharger.
It's got to be true, I wrote about it on this forum.

The guy did not make the statement of fact, but just mentioned that he had heard something and is looking for people who have any information. Why people like you jump on this situation every time to try and make that person look stupid for asking is so low class. Get a life.

There are some touchy people in here thats for sure. This is a discussion forum. I have backed off posting at times because you get jumped.
Lets chill out. I love these threads, maybe if we keep talking Mazda will make a twin turbo.

i think mazda will get the NA rx8 back to its original 'claimed' power raiting long befor a factory FI car comes out.
Twin Turbo, supercharger, single turbo...ect ect ect...who cars how its done, I think that a lot of people would be happy with just MORE power...crazy americans....why cant you just be happy with a well powered car with AMAZING handling.
I would kill if they would just bring the factory JDM mazdaspeed RX8 over here....no changes, just ship them to the dealers and Id buy one. I dont care about more power, i just want to feel like id stick to the road if it turned upside down.
part of the reason (other than cost) that they didnt bring a MS over to this side of the pond is cause 'us' americans are power hungry and just want to drag race all the time, or go around an oval......blah

Hey is there such a thing as a supercharger with a clutch? They had it in the Mad Max and Road Warrior movies. He only used it when he needed it and turned it off to save gas. How cool would that be? Does it exist in the real world?

ask yourself 2 questions- why twin turbo? what advantage woudl it provide over a single turbo?
then search for the threads that already discuss this and you will see why any story of twin turbo is not true

You could have one turbo per rotor and those turbos would be smaller than the single turbo that would be needed to feed both rotors. Being smaller these turbos would give boost sooner than one large turbo. Or you could use two turbos in series with both turbos feeding both rotors - a small turbo that spools up quickly for low rpm and a larger one for higher rpms.
No idea at all if Mazda is planning this but just answering your theoretical question.

In other word, why use 2 turbos?
Because fast spool up (increase in torque) and good potential in high end (remember the FD? same concept). Also more compact to fit between the motor and the frame of the RX8.
So yes the RX-8 can benefit from a twin turbo set up in sequentiall mode.
The FD had 2 different size turbos, one for low end and the other for high end (a bit bigger)that kicked in a 4500 rpm.
but will Mazda go back to that pain in the ***? I don't think they will.

no the correct answer is - at the time the twin setup was needed to do what you say- to get around the lag problem. but with advances in trubos, today you dont need two for that purpose. there are several great Turbo's out there now that have nearly zero lag and can provide the power all the way to redline.
one for each rotor is not a good idea with the siamesed center exhaust port. and for the complexity isnt worth the downside.
if they go turbo it will be a single. jury is still out on the question since they are trying both Turbos and superchargers(belt driven and electricaly driven) currently

**********URGENT NEWS**********
The new RX-9 will be coming out. Mazda decided to ditch the rotors and go with pistons. They are planning on a 5 cylinder type engine.
