2008 EPA fuel mileage ratings
Just watched "Motorweek" on Speed TV and saw an interesting piece. Starting in 2008, the EPA is changing the way they project estimated fuel economy ratings for cars. The current method for rating mpg dates back to the 1960's. The new mpg ratings are going to take air conditioning, other power accessories, quicker acceleration, higher freeway speeds, and cold weather starts into consideration. Now, the mpg ratings on a car's MSRP sticker should more accurately reflect real world mileage. Not only are they going to display the new mileage ratings, but they are going to also list the older ratings too so that consumers can see the difference between the two figures and compare them side by side. My 2007 RX8 posted ratings of 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. We all know that this is not the case. Just curious what the new ratings will be for the RX8. I predict either 15 or 16 mpg city and 20 or 21 mpg highway. Anyone else have any thoughts about this? Just a little FYI.

Sorry about the repost. I just got off of work from the night shift and didn't search. The Motorweek show just aired last night while I was working and I caught it via TIVO and thought the info was brand new. It's not like the info was several months old or anything. Just trying to pass along a little friendly info. I wouldn't want to intentionally ruffle NoTears 316 or Rems 31's feathers on purpose or anything. SORRY!!!!!!! A lot of uptight people here.

isnt that the truth. some people act as if reposts are a personal affront. just ignore them as they usually have nothing meaningful to say anyway.
BTW, saw the same show. I have always wondered why the EPA was slow to "fix" their testing procedures. my guess is any lowering of MPG numbers would have met with lotsa pressure from auto manufacturers.
