Is 2009 the last RX-8 model? Say it isn't true!
I will be looking in the fall of 2009 to acquire an RX-8 (again; my last one was a 2004 model I got in 2003). I am curious to know if 2010 models will be out by then, or whether there will even be a 2010 RX-8. I came across some nasty gossip saying that in 2010, the RX-8 might be replaced by a new RX-7 coupe.

"...By that time, Mazda's RX-8 will be seven years old and ready for retirement, hence speculation that the next RX-7 will take over as Mazda's "senior" sports car."

Any info on whether this really is in the cards or just pure speculation?

Nothing but speculation so far. Nothing has been confirmed. That's the Kabura concept from a few years back. It had 4 seats in an unusual set up. 3 full size seats.

pure speculation at this point, we won't know for quite some time. Just keep saving up and hopefully you can pick up a 2010 or or 09. (I'm sure there will still be new ones on the lot)

I'd be real happy if they'd finally bring the RX-01 to market with the 16x in it--that would be pretty much the ultimate coupe, maybe they'd need to update it a little with what they've learned from the 8.

My opinion is pure speculation on this as well, but since they just "redesigned" the RX8 in 2009 I would expect them to stick with it a few years before they change again... like closer to 2012. If memory serves, the 2009 started hitting the lots in late summer so it'll probably be a few months yet before you start seeing the 2010.

Your other thread was closed because it was the same as this...but strangely so was my last post there. So I'll summarize....again here... and wonder why my thoughts were deleted. there is nothing subversive here..... just some rather simple minded deductions from reality or is it perhaps some truth here that is better left unsaid?
anyway...enie meani chili beani ....my crystal ball sees either 1) no 2010 RX-8, Mazda will simply skip that year, selling off current 2009 inventory thru early 2011, or 2) continue 2009 production selling it as a 2010 model thru spring 2011.
Meanwhile, as we all are hanging on Mazda's every word for a 2011 revival car w/16X engine....Mazda will quietly cancel the rotary car as uneconomical to produce, due to business condtions, much as they did the RX-7 in '95

Perhaps, but at some point it's not worth the expense/investment of maintaining production line capacity, materials on hand, and staff to make just a few thousand cars a yr....or at least one would think so

If they keep revising the RX8 to incorporate other Mazda parts like the steering wheel and front bumper ect.... then it will be cost effective but ugly POS.
Besides... V8's are becoming dinosars. HP and on increased motor size should be reduced for all car compaines dur shortage of oil and gas prices.
Net affect: no need for over a 200 to 300HP car.
That makes the Rotary right in the sweet spot for exsistence.

I zoom therefore I am.
I doubt the current global economy has many vehicle manufacturers looking at anything other then "end of life" to car lines and "hybrid/green"card, and the normal cosmetic changes to existing lines.

Interesting, but the point still stands about not going backwards in number. All I was wondering is why do people think there would be a new rotary going by the model RX-7?

Are you serious? V8s get better gas mileage than the rotary in many cases. That's all the government cares about anyway.

Yea from a marketing standpoint, naming it anything other than the RX-7 would be hurting its sales i would think. The model name RX-7 is iconic, and there are people who would consider it just because they can say they have the NEW RX-7. Not to mention all the die hard 7 guys out there. If its named the RX-10 they will just look at it as another RX-8 type a car and turn their noses up at it.

but if the new RX-7 would not live up to the name of the "rx-7" then the legend of the FD being up there with the supra's of the day in it's time....will b ruined with this "piece of **** 7" so i think mazda would think aobut naming it the rx9 personally.....but who knows.

After a redesign, you can expect to see it last another 4 years on average, which puts it to around 2012, except if sales stay too low then they'll cut it off.
