2009 RX-8 R3 with 7K miles for 28K?
Hi Guys,
I recently returned my leased 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 and bought a 2009 RX-8 R3. I paid 28K before taxes. The 8 had 7K miles when I purchased the vehicle, pretty much in brand-new/mint condition. The dealer told me the car's MSRP was 34K, so I believed them, but I found out later that the vehicle's MSRP is more like 32K. Obviously at the time I thought it was a steal - but now that I know the real price, I don't feel like I got a really good deal. What'd you guys think? I have one week to change my mind and sell the car back to the dealer at almost no loss. I'm new here so please be kind.

I would return it. You can get one with 100 miles for that price. Go to www.truecar.com , I would demand the car be sold at 24K, not 28K. Heck even 24K might be too high for me, but its fair.

Unfortuneatly depends on what state your in... In CA ther is no cooling off period. Once you sign the papers and drive it off the lot its yours. That is unless the dealer is cool enough to let you return it.

i see. well the dealer helped lower my APR and agreed to insure the engine for 10 years, plus free oil changes. i'm paying 500 flat for 6 years. still a bad deal? i probably wouldn't buy another r3 again since it's a pain to find one here in vegas. further thoughts?

Mazda already warranties your engine for 8 years, 100000 miles. Basically you took it up the *** so hard that you're still numb and don't notice that gigantic dealership **** that broke off inside of you. Dealers don't "help lower your APR." They'll give you the highest rate that you're willing to settle for. They profit on any percentage above what the banks REALLY want. You go to a bank or credit union before you set foot in a car dealership and you get the best APR.
a) return the car and cut your losses
b) RESEARCH, and know what a car is worth before you go to buy it, not after
c) there are so many free car-buying resources on the internet that you never should have gotten screwed like that
d) go to your bank/credit union beforehand and get pre-approved financing

Doesn't 2nd hand cars depreciate by the standard 25% when you drive it off the dealer lot?
Going by that rate if you can get it for 32k new, then drive it off the lot, you're looking at 24k plus a little more for the 7k miles that's on it already.
Not a good deal..... and 7k miles is a little too high on a 'new' car...

I don't like to pile on but that really wasn't a very good deal. 7k is a significantly used car and you paid a new car price. As others have cited the "extras" the dealer "gave you" are really nothing much out of his hide. There are far better deals to be had these days.
Next time ask here before you buy!

Well thanks all for the feedback. So what should I do at this point? Either I sell the car back to the dealer and lose $1K, or try to re-negotiate a deal. Or just man up, love the car, and deal with it? What are my options now that I've been scammed?

You got that in writting?

Sorry, but you got screwed. My 8 only had 4,700 miles when I bought it and it was ten grand less than it sold for new, and that wasn't a particularly great deal.
As others have said, the engine already has an 8-year/100k mile warranty. $500 a month for 6 years is awful, I'm paying $320. You bought a used car at a new car price, that dealership just ate you up.
If they'll really take it back, get to the dealership ASAP and kill that deal. I think you'll be in for a surprise when you find out what "almost no loss" means, though. Sorry man, but you really took it up the *** on that one.
EDIT: Sorry, I missed the post about taking a 1k loss to sell it back. Another scam, they get $1,000 out of you and they lose like nothing. They're robbing you. I'd probably take the 1k hit though if it were me, if you keep the car you'll end up losing a whole lot more than that in the long run.

you got screwed, big time.
I got my 8 in 2005, I know different time different trim BUT, mine was a special edition(its not that special but whatever), and I got mine for 28K with 15 miles on odometer
I was about to get an R3 couple months ago (for certain reasons, cuz I got some extra $$$ ... hehe) and it was a 2009 R3 model with 5 miles on odometer and they're selling it for 2K UNDER invoice and u can have Mazda's special APR no bullshit. so yeah ... you got ripped.
if you really have a cool off period. return it ASAP !

You got hosed man. Do your research next time around. The car dealerships love when someone "green" walks on the lot. You paid a new car price for a used car. The warranty is already up to 100k.
