I knew that article was bullcrap! Everyone knows the 09 RX8 is going to have retractable wheels so that it can function more efficiently underwater. You know like that Lotus in that James Bond movie. I think it was a Lotus....

i would be willing to trade-up as long as it's a rotary... it looks like an evolution of the kabura. if the weight stays around 2000 lbs, then the 300 hp should be a nice boost, though i wonder if by then they might give it even more, since other japanese imports are well into the mid-300 range by then? wow, what a beautiful rx it would be...

Indeed it was a white Lotus in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

Here's a big problem with the article. They've sited an
Alfa Romeo
as the 2009 Mazda Rx8
as well as the current model as the 2009 model
and the Kabura as the 2009 rx8
. . . . . very proffesional

you are so incredibly misinformed its comical.
its not an 'evolution of the kabura' it IS the kabura. They changed the colors on it an edited in an "rx8" faux license plate. that is IT. maybe they changed the side mirrors?
the kabura will not be a trade up from the rx8 even if it gets a rotary.
it is intended as an entry level to compete with the 20k crowd of the civics and scions and such
its not going to be 2000lbs but its supposed to be around 2500 and probably be slightly more when it gets american safety gear.
its not going to have 300hp, right now they are saying it is going to have the ~170hp 2.0L out of the miata.

C'mon !!!
Puh-leeeeze!
The opening line was a give away - "after nearly 8 years of production".
Ha frickin' Ha. Try half that, and you might convince me you have enough credibility to get me to click the link.
Idiot.

the article is somewhat speculative and i think for the most part we're just tossing around some wishful thinking and discussion here... if you [mac11] have access to official, published press info from mazda as to what they've officially decided to do w/ the 8 or the kabura, then please do share your info and your sources to back up your claims... to my knowledge it's all still up in the air right now.
yah, the kabura was introduced as a concept vehicle, and to my knowledge there's been no official word yet as to whether it will even go into production, or become a rotary offering at all. i think the design of the kabura would make for a nice rotary offering if they decide to go that route...

I never said anything other than it was a concept and gave up the details on how it is currently configured. All the information is also right where i said it was...

the kabura is far from perfect, but its futuristic lines & design make the current 8 look like a wheelbarrow in comparison... at least it's something for mazda to shoot for in the next gen rotary, if it will even become that...
