2009 RX8, what ya think?
So i stopped by a Mazda Dealer yesterday because i heard they had the new RX8's there, so i decided to go there to check them out. Their nice, but i think i like the 08' and down better. They body styling of the 09's are more luxurious looking, and less sporty i think? Dont get me wrong there still veryy nice, and the new model R3's are veryy sick. But my question is, i love the new LED tail lights on the 09's, and was wonderin if anyone had any idea if they would fit on the 04-08 models? Thanks!

The only thing that I really like about the 2009s are the R3 seats (though I think the back seat is also improved upon slightly) and the better ducting for the oil coolers. I am wondering if the original Mazdaspeed nose and ducts would accomplish the same thing without needing new headlamps and fenders, however.

The '09 RX8s are ugly. Owners will tell you they look better in person. That would eb a lie.
The R3 is the only decent one to get because of the upgrades. But its still ugly and still not worth the price tag. IMO

I've got the '09 and agree the outer appearance really depends on the person. I think both versions look nice in their own way.
This has nothing to do with the way it drives but I just really like the nifty little touches they've added to the interior. Things like leather on the parking brake, padded leather on the door arm rests and improved groove-less leather on the seats. The console is brighter and clearer than the old one but I do miss the three color scheme. And I actually really like the steering wheel. I went to a meet last weekend and others agreed it isn't as ugly as it does in the pictures and it feels really comfrotable. Add to that auto lights, auto wipers, and auto AC and the '09 is a more comfortable ride than before.

The fingernail-shape thing that erased the side grill. Does it make functional? If not I would just rip it off.
There's no possible way to improve old-school rx8 style. Every change is for the worse whether from corporate or personal use. Some driver even claim to add "clear" light covers, mistaken in their belief that it is any better than orange.
I can only guess why people make clearly bad decisions. Such as starting to smoke, or slipping into alcoholism, or ruining their life and getting married. Somewhere in that mess of bad human fallibility, comes all the new-school rx8 nonsense.
Polls show, 67% of rx8 driver believe their car is headed the wrong way.

Totally threw me off track. I thought it was a dust cap for a new side "intake".
It must boil down to this. If you turn in rx8 to the body shop, and it comes out looking like 2009... what will you do?
1. "Thanks for the free facelift". (unlikely)
2. "I will punch your face into pizza dough." (more plausible)

My .02 it is not a clean looking front end anymore. The CX7/9 style is fine on a SUV but sux on the 8.
The interior is fine as hell with all the gadgets that should have been on the older models already but I digress.
Just don't like the new design!!!!

The body is fine, the front lip over the grille is hideous, the gauges are directly out of a Toyota Matrix and have no place in a sports car. The original gauges/style/fonts look perfect.
No matter what we all say, our '04-'08 will soon look dated as we will all adjust to the new '09 look
I rarely see a '04-'08 on the road anyways.. Haven't seen a '09 yet.
Get rid of the lip and the Sesame Street gauges and it will be fine.
