23 Mpg !!!!!!
I'm just celebrating getting 23mpg (ok it was really 22.93 but whatever)!!!
It was comprised of about...
60 city miles
160 highway miles doing 65-75 mph
a half hour of idling do to a frikkin accident during that highway trip
and 3 short stints up to 90 some mph showing up a few people who tried racing me
I think without the accident and races, I may have got 24+mpg... not that I'd be bragging about that if I had any other car, but still its something.
for reference I have about 1000 miles on the car now

pr0ber,
What grade gas were you using and roughly what was the average temprature during most of your driving time? Also tell us about how much A/C did you use during this MPG observation.

gas was a mix of 89 (I didn't have enough $ to fill it with super) and some leftover 93 octane (put the good stuff in to celebrate getting to the break-in period :D )
temps were high 70's and I had the AC on the whole time on the lowest fan setting

Hey pr0ber,
Was that a fillup with a warm engine, used-up non-stop?
Or did you have some shutdowns/cold engine events during that tankfull?

I would love to see 23 mpg. Heck even 18 would be nice. I'm at 1070 miles, averaging 15 mpg on the last tank. My overal mpg through five tanks has been dropping from 17 to 15...
(80% city driving and probably 1/4 of the time is non-granny driving.)

The day I bough my auto, I drove it home 250 miles or so, and I got 28 MPG, 95 degree heat, A/C on, two passengers. Since then, I have been doing about 70 - 30 hiway to city, and have conisitently got 23MPG.
I now have almost 2K on the car, and am in heaven.

Got 23 MPG during one all highway run of about 250 miles. That was with cruise control set at 75 the whole way. Man I really like the way the cruise control works in this car.

We don't care what kind of MPG's your M3 is getting. This is an RX-8 forum. Now leave.

Maybe it has better gas mileage, & definately better performance times. The braking and handling is a wash, IMO. The interior is subjective. And are you kidding us about the reliability of the M3 being better? IMHO, the reliability of your M3 is far worse than the RX-8 will ever be. Last the M3 will never be able to match the sexy sporty styling of the RX-8.

And in regards to your derogatory flaming remarks about the RX-8. It's uncalled for. Now's it time for the moderator to boot your *** off this board.

Now to get this thread back on topic.
Glad to hear of your gas mileage, pr0ber. We have about 850 miles on our car. My wife has gotten almost similar mileage on her last trip, 22.5 MPG. And that was about 75/25 highway/city. No cruise control, 65-75mph speeds, occasional hi-rev shifting. Using highest octane.

I have been getting 20-21 mpg from 200-800 miles on my car in mixed driving. 27 miles to work half highway the other half city a lot of slow driving. I just checked my air pressure and it was 40 psi. I just lowered it to 32 psi. I will let you know if it hurts the mileage.

Why, oh why do people like devil come over here.
OK, let me address this as simply as I possibly can. First, the roatary has been at the forefront of technology since its inception. BMWs are fine cars. I've owned two of them. Talk about "tons of money", wait until you have to replace the water pump, or a fuel pump, or a fan belt, or any suspension piece....better go get a 2nd mortgage because that's what it's going to take to maintain your ride. Talk about the buggering you're going to get..........
While styling is subjective, I'm sorry, but I guarantee I get more 2nd looks, thumbs up, drooling over my RX8 that I ever did with the BMWs. Quality of the interiors between the BMWs and the RX8 is a wash....both are great.
Performance of the low end 3 series (that's priced close to the RX8) won't come close to the RX8. Handling with those same cars is no contest.....winner RX8.
I passed on a 330ci for the very reasons I stated above. And I'm a BMW lover.
You're right....you definitely don't qualify as RX8 material.
