330 miles to the tank
thats right, i got 330 miles to the tank before my low fuel light came on. This never happens to me before, i usually get 200 miles to the tank with average driving and 25o miles if i baby it. im not really sure how i got an extra 80 miles out of it, i put in the usual type of gas but i was at a much higher elevation which was also about 20-30 degrees cooler then the car is used to. anyone know if elevation and temperature can increase gas milage?

Well, air is thinner at higher altitudes, so to keep the engine from running too rich it adds less fuel. The result should be less hp but greater fuel mileage. At least thats my hypothesis.

I'm sure some1 can elaborate more on this but when the air is colder it's more dense and that allows more air/oxygen to enter into the engine on intake stroke. In combustion since you have more oxygen available to combust with the fuel, the fuel gets used more completely. That translates to better performance by ur engine and u end up not being on the accelerator as much.... I<3cold lol

The main reason for better MPG at altitude is the thinner air has less drag on the car. That is one reason the airplanes fly at 30K feet and higher. Actually they commonly climb to higher altitudes as fuel (weight) burns off to get better mpg. Before EFI cars got worse milage at altitude as there was no adjustment for the thin air, so the engine ran poorly. But now with EFI it is a new game.
A few years back I was in south east Oregon and northern Nevada at high altitude and running 80~90 with my wife's Dodge Intrepid (3.2L engine) (full size car) and actually got just under 30 mpg!

I did on a recent trip to Florida . . . using premix for the whole trip. ~310 miles I believe was my best tank. Usually 14.5-14.8 gallon fill-ups, 90+ degrees, AC on always, highway cruising anywhere between 80-100 mph the whole way. Avg for trip was 21.5 mpg.
Before using premix my best tank might have been 280's and 20 mpg.
