Well, I ran mine up over 34K this week, and it does feel stronger also - maybe it's just me, but I like it allot.

Brice-RX8, still not convinced :

Yes I have read this and most know this is why the buy back occurred and whatnot, but the spin on the ECU maps changing is new, and would be great if it occurs. Hope you are right!

Anyone close to Mazda, know anything about this.
Brice-RX8, read the post from 6speed8. How else would you account for the changes with more power, clean exhaust tips, and better gas mileage . Isn't it painfully obvious

6speed8:

"32 k miles here and definitely more grunt, the back end DOES kick out on the 1-2 shift and a significant (heard by my friend on the phone) chirp on the 2-3 shift.

The exhaust tips stay CLEAN now. I used to have to clean them every night during my nightly california duster procedure, but, I have to say, not anymore.

One more proof this thing is running better at 32k miles - I just got 20.09 miles per gallon driving the very same route that I have been for the past two years (back and forth to work) and I originally (two years ago ) start at 17 mpg and got improvements over time attributable to each flash and rotary break-in, but I had always come up just shy of 20 mpg, well that all changed Yesterday!

So, at 32k miles, more power, clean exhaust tips and better mileage!"

That's when the fuel maps trims down from the rich air/fuel mixture to a leaner/original design by Mazda for the Renesis, by then the Catalyst life can theoretically make the EPA3 requirement of 120,000 miles . The rich mixture used before 40K miles was a work-around in order for the Cat to last for 120K miles yet still meet the emission requirements of EPA3.
Hmmmm…interesting…

Damn, It will take me 2-3 more years to get 34k on my 8.
LOL, I’m at 10 months of ownership and I’m still at 5.3K….I will never get there either, lol.

Does my car chirp tires, no, only once, and that was with DSC off.

Huh? I’ve chirped tires in gears 1-3 *4 maybe, but I don't remember*…maybe your too conservative, or I’m too abusive??? LoL

Le Man immediately banned the rotary the first year it won.
What trash….gosh, I think “DA MAN” is behind all of this rotary hate…why is there so much hate for the Rotary? We need (or is there one) a race that is meant for ONLY rotary engines.

I say…Slick8 for president, and Showoff for vise president…since he started this thread. Slick8, I hope you are right but sadly I wont hit those numbers for a LONG LONG TIME….only 29K more...:0(

obviously the ban was lifted because a 3-rotor raced in 96 and a 4-rotor raced in 97.

also, in the 2005 le mans regulations, there is a section that specifies the size restrictor plates needed for different engine sizes, and rotary engines are listed, meaning that rotary engines are definately not banned (anymore).

Sorry, but I guess I will not believe it 100% until someone that knows the ECU much more indepth like RotaryGod, Mazda, Racing Beat; if it could be totally true. Wouldn't the EPA have to approve of the car's programming if such changes occur?

6speed8's situation code be just the recall flash helping his car out more than others. They are all different.

i think there was a ban, it just wasn't long lived.

from mazda's website
Following the 1991 Le Mans, the FIA outlawed rotary engines, and Mazda entered its first piston engine for 1992. Even with alternate technology, Mazda scored an impressive fourth place finish, despite the team's developing the sports racer against incredibly tight deadlines.

theres some comfliting information, the thing was that wihtout the varible intake system the car was not competitive and mazda dit not enter it(rx-792p), and in lemans the car is legal only if someone enter the car and ask for it to be inspected, for example the rotary was not permited in gran am until speedsource and mazda ask to enter the rx-8.

I also heard that a lot of the piston engine team complain and the rotary was ban until it was faund a way to level the playn field, of course the rotary was hevaly penalised wiht intake restrictors.

Im going on memory here of what I read in magazines at the time so I maybe way of

I just bought my 6MT GT a few day ago with 29k miles, and it seems extremely quick to me.. of course I cant compare it to the way it used to be since I didnt have it back then, but if it gets any faster I will be exxtra happy!
I am kind of curious about its 1/4 mile speed though because everyone claims they are a mid 14second car to low 15 seconds. My last car was a 97 Prelude and it was capable of high 14s in the 1/4, and I am positive my new car would wooop all over that thing.. has anyone ever got low 14s in the 1/4 stock? I'm not a big racer so I will probably never take it to the track, I'm just curious to know what it is capable of..

Thanks a lot!

They didn't have this ecu tripping, into a different map, that someone mentioned earlier for the FD's.
