5 questions...plz answer
1) how do you calculate gas mileage for your rx8s...what i think im supposed to do is take the number of miles im at after a fillup and subtract it from the number of miles i have when the yellow gas indicator light turns on and divide by the volume of the gas tank...but this wouldnt be very precise because there is still gas left when the yellow gas indicator light turns on...
what do i do???
2) do the 6 speed rx8s get the 238hp that mazda claims or is this rumor of about 200hp true?? ive gon through many threads but i dont see any proof to the rumor. i just see a bunch of jibba jabba and i want a distinct answer. i love the rx8. its got excellent handling, pretty fast, beautiful styling and draws a lot of attention but i dont think i should be getting 17 or 18 mpg for a car with only 200 hp. i paid for 250 hp, then i settled for 238, but if it goes down to 200, i think i should get some new gift from mazda thats cooler than this little model car.
(the model car is actually pretty cool)
3) my dealer said nto to wax the car for like 3-4 yrs because i got some sealant on it. can i use zaino on top of this sealant??
also, what do you use to clean the material inside of the car in front of the passenger seat??armoral??
4) would adding an exhaust system or an intake air system void my warranty??
5) how can i get all the rust off my brakes, there is so much there. is anyone else having this problem
thanks for the help

1. reset your trip counter next time you fill up. Drive until you need to fill up again. Fill up and divide the number of miles traveled by the number of gallons it took to fill the tank.
2. don't know, don't care
3. Your dealer is BSing you. Inside I just use a damp cloth.
4. The dealer would have to prove they caused the problem.
5. I don't have that problem but steel wool works, then coat it with something to prevent future rust. (I imagine you are not talking about the part of the rotor that the pads contact.)

1: Miles travelled/gallons used to fill it up
2: JMO....fast...not worried
3: Zaino is great. Your dealer is FOS.
4: I don't see why it would void your warranty. But no harm in calling to see.
5: Keep driving....it'll be fine.

1) See previous posts. fxdsconv2000 is right.
2) I'm not a mechanic, I'm not really sure what the horse power is. But she's plenty fast enough for me.
3) When you said your "dealer" said not to wash or wax it for 3-4 years....were you referring to your DRUG dealer? [Just Kidding]. The Owner's Manual states that you should wash and wax your car at least once a month. Most shine their baby up every weekend. For the inside use either Armor All or "Mother's Back to Black." (good stuff....I use it)
4) The manager of the car dealer where I bought my car put an air-intake cooling system and a different exhaust on his 8. My salesman says it does NOT void the warranty, however to be safe, check with your dealer.
5) Disk breaks have a habit of doing this. It's just more noticable on wheels which have larger openings where the disks can be viewed.
ABOVE ALL.....READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL....cover to cover. Lotsa good stuff in there! :D

2) There have been a ton of dyno's of a stock rx8 on this forum. The highest stock I saw was ~190-195, and that seemed to correlate well with what the other dyno's were saying once you adjusted for altitude/temp/humidity/alingment of the moons etc.
190BHP on a Dyno translates into ~220-225, so no not 238 like Mazda claims, unless they lose a lot of HP from the crank to the wheels (oh yeah limp mode and all that too)
However the new PCM flashes seem to be giving much closer to 238, I am just too lazy to go find a Dyno and find out for myself.
For the love of god do not turn this into another HP thread!!!
Use the search button, this horse is pulpy from being beaten down so much.

but like, when you fillup gas when the yellow gas light turns on, your tank isnt completely empty so if you divide by the number of gallons it takes to fill up the tank, your answer will be somewhat flawed...i was wondering if there was a more exact way to calculate..

1) Fill up tank unil nozzle clicks off
2) Reset trip meter
3) Drive
4) Fill up tank until nozzle clicks off, write down gallons on pump readout
5) divide trip meter by number of gallons in step 4 = MPG
6) go to step 2
There's no need to wait until the tank is empty, but the emptier the tank is the less error you'll get from slight variations from pump to pump (when the nozzle clicks off)
