50,000 Miles!!!!!!!

Well...it's been a little while since I been on here. But life's been crazy.

Anyhow, last night I turned the 50k mark on the BB 8.

Two years on the dot! Wierd huh.

So here's my 50k impression.

OVERALL:
This car is a great car! Great Handling! Consistent Performance! Stunning good looks (like it's driver of course) Most important, it is the most FUN car I've ever driven. It is truly a driver's car.

GOOD:
See 'Overall'

BAD:
Not very practical. Gas mileage could be better considering I drive almost 100 miles a day currently.

I worry about blowing an engine daily.

Not the cars fault, but it's a headache to maintain. More on the cosmetic side. Since It's my daily driver, I have no garage, and I drive so much, it is impossible to keep PERFECT. My interior is in what I would consider, pristine condition. It rusn great. I've done all the maintenace myself. But the exterior is beat to hell. I just can't maintain it with my busy lifestyle, and my driving. I try my best though.

FUTURE OUTLOOK:
If I decide to keep it, I will not be dissapointed, but I am currently looking at moving on. I love rotary's so much, and hope to have a project car later in life but rightnow as having only one car, I need something to fit my lifestyle. Something that I won't worry about too much. It deserves better than what it's getting right now.

Problem is I owe much more than it's value. So I am goign to take a hit on it. That is what's going to determine whether I go with the other vehicle or not.

I know there are several here who have more miles than me, but I know I am 'up there'. At least for a RX-8. I hope everyone enjoys this car as much as I do.

Long live the Rotary!

Sounds like you love this car as much as the rest of us. All I can say is never give up the dream. Nothing will ever compare to the feel of this car.

60k became the new 50k ever since the last recall. So you still have 10k miles of warranty left. Use them wisely!

i second that...what's your reason for fearing the engine to blow? Have you abused it?

I feel your pain on the mileage issue. I drive almost 50 miles a day and it's mainly on freeways so my front end has taken some stone damage. And gas continues to hover around $2.75/gal

Unless we decide to get a more expensive car for my wife, I plan on buying another 8 in December. I just love this car.

I'm right at 50K and no gripes. I took a friend for a ride this weekend who owns a 73 Triumph. He was amazed at the handling and styling for the price. Took him around some hairpin turns and he was laughing out load. Not sure what else I can get for under 30k that will be as much fun.

Yeah, if I decide to change cars, I know it won't be that much of a fun car.

It's not that I actually fear blowing the engine, especially since it still is under warranty. But I am not sure it will last till I pay it off. I owe roughly 20k maybe a little less. It may last 120 miles before any major issues. Maybe longer but at the rat I'm going I'll be at 190k miles by the time I pay it off. I'd rather put those miles on a car I don't particularly care about.

But who knows nothing is set in stone right now.

I just thought it was cool I hit a milestone...sort of...

That's a tough one because a black car is a bitch to keep looking nice no matter what kind of car it is, especially through the winter. Though you're apparently in Texas so it's not as bad as us Northern/Eastern states get it. A sports car like the RX-8 is extra tough because you always want it looking sleek and clean! Who cares if their Caravan or F-150 has a bunch of mud on it?

holy crap batman!

You've got 50K on it and still owe almost $20K?! You musta paid MSRP for it, and work as a traveling salesman!

IMO, keeping it would be the wiser option at the moment. Not like it's a pinto either. Shouldn't feel like penance!

Anytime I doubt the 8, which doesn't happen all that often anyhow...taking her out to a windey country road and throwing her out of some turns at 9K reminds me of why i bought it. Go try it again...it's always another smile waiting to happen!

I've got both of you beat! I bought the car in August of 06 with 33k. Now, only 6 months later, I have 51k. 18,000 miles in 6 months = 36,000 per year.

Luckily, I just resigned my position. No need to drive 55+ miles each way to work anymore. Woohoo!

Now, If I can only get another job.......

I'm at 53K, but in reponse to dmorales, I would keep the car. Summer is coming, and so will the free time to get out and work on the finish of your car. Nothing better than a shade tree, something cool to drink, and car polish.
