5k on my stock rx8

and with the boost controller + ap = 280 whp range. So you underestimate the gains. Personally, I'd sell off the greddy turbo and get the MM turbo upgrade instead of wasting time with the one included with the kit.
That's another $1800, and buy 730 cc injectors for $60. Grand total is now $5460, and your car is capable of doing 350 whp if you wanted. Figure another $1000 if you can't install the turbo kit yourself, and another $300 or so for the injector install.

thanks for all the help ive been reading as much as i could the past few days... ive had the car for a little over 2 years and wanted to upgrade it to something that i love.
The car itself is beautiful and the handling is amazing just from the passed two days i've learned more than i thought i could if its honestly 800 more 5800 or even 6500 i can probably do but its always gonna cost more so i wanted to see what kind of response form 5k i could get but the cars worth 20k i didn't want to put 10k into it =/
ill take your advice on reading more and the manual....I had my little rice burner honda and am kind of over the body kits and such i want more of a performance over cosmetic.
yes you guys read i dont know much about cars but ill learn hopefully all i can so if its about handling it ill be fine on that part. Just didn't want to BS everyone and say i did cause i know it makes a difference.
as for the turbo, i talked to my friends dad whose grown up and worked on cars his whole life tells me he will look around and he could install it himself but we'd have to get the car "mapped" w/ a laptop and get everything perfectly set up to my engine so i wouldnt get screwed having to get a new engine in 2 months.
THANKS SAM

Sam, if you get the AccessPort from MazdaManiac, he can supply you with maps that can be custom trimmed to work for your car. Getting the car dyno tuned can be done to get every last bit of power from it, but it's not nearly as important as it used to be. Check out the AP video in my sig.
The turbo install is fairly easy. The difficulty comes from removing the exhaust manifold and installing the turbo in that location. But that's a 1-2 hour part of the job, so not a huge deal. The second most difficult part is upgrading the fuel injectors, but if your dad's friend has worked on cars, it might be a no brainer.

Take some high performance driving classes to learn your car and more importantly what mods you want and need. After that it is better to upgrade tires and suspension because that will improve handling and the overall balance of the car.
Several people here said go FI. Can you do that in your state? Do you have emissions to consider?

if you love the handling, I HIGHLY recommend some suspension upgrades. I know some guys here will immediately tell you to get coilovers but a good set of struts (shocks) and springs will work just fine!
Add some swaybars to the car and you're stylin'!

I could be wrong and apologize if so but I do not think the OP has a lot of experience driving a car with lots whp. If that is the case then the rx-8 is more than fast enough as is. Improving the handling of the car can only help him.

thanks soo much you guys as you could see my last post was around 3 a.m. im really stocked about doing this and just started reading everything between posts and owners manual.
um for the questions i saw i live in CA and as i saw in other posts yeah it is a bitch to pass emissions here.
to kersh and everyone about suspension im not lacking much handling as of now having everything stock and yeh for the most part everyone is saying suspension which i dont see a need for now but probably would help alot after the turbo.
out of curiosity w/ a turbo and a few other mods how would we hold up to an 08 350z not to change the subject but i think my cousins getting one =D

turbo* rx8 > 350z in a drag race and around a track
*well tuned turbo. as mysql has been so quick to point out over the last few days, the stock greddy kit can be good for 270whp. thats beyond the power of a stock 350z. (230-240whp)

^ only if you get knockoffs.
If you want to not risk your warranty on your rx-8 by installing non mazda approved strakes, you'll need to install the OEM version. And quite frankly, $5,000 barely buys you half of a single set of strakes. Not to mention dealer fees for proper install.

look for a used kit. they usually sell for about 2k. look on ebay, craigslist, or the for sale section of this forum. it might take you a few months to find one. but just be patient, unless you are willing to blow $1500 for being impatient.

I guess you should figure out what you want first, do you want more power? You have to consider that you are in CA if you wanna go the FI route. Do you have any plans as far as taking your car to the track? Think of suspension upgrades then.
A set of springs and shocks would work too but if you have the money, do your research and get a good set of coilovers. Cheaper than getting a set of springs and shocks just to find out later that you'd have been better off buying a set of coilovers to begin with.
Don't forget sway bars. You think that the your car handles good right now, wait 'til you take it to the track.
AFE short shifter, day and night difference
a decent helmet... I've read somewhere that if you have a $100 head then get a $100 helmet.
HPDE course (best upgrade you'll ever do to you and your car IMO)
lightweight wheels + grippy tires combo for the track
...and save the rest for maintenance as you go along. Like, when it's time to change the pads, upgrade it for a better ones and maybe even your rotors. While you're at it, replace your brake lines with DOT approved stainless steel brakelines and better fluid. And maybe the AFE master cylinder brace. Another example is when your ignition coils go out on you, you can opt for the MSD upgrade (there's a DIY somewhere on the forum). Maybe even switch to synthetics on your next fluid change (oil, tranee and diff). Read read and read then ask questions if you can't find the answers.
goodluck!
