6AT to 6MT conversion
ok so im in the process of getting parts for this swap (6 speed auto to manual)
i PM'd rotary resurrection
ive got all the mechanical parts needed for this
but now my question is
do i need the ABS and PCM or ECU from a donor car for my car? RotaryResurection used them for his swap but he swapped motors from 4 port to 6 port.
I already have a 6 port auto so wouldnt i need those electrical components?
and would Mazda be able to reflash my ecu for a MT car
all it needs is it raise the redline i think.
once the swap is done i can drive around with the same automatic programmed ecu and redline at 8k or w.e the manuals redline is but the shift alert beep will just be makin noise till i shift, can my ecu be reflashed to raise this redline
and is there going to be a change in anything else in the motor thats controlled by the ecu? like ignition timings and what not, i dont think so because its the same engine but just wondering lol
If anyone can help out please let me know
thanks!

This was a 5 month bump on a thread that went nowwhere 5 months ago and will probably go nowwhere now. For starters the OP claimed to have a 6 port auto? Really?
Dont swap the motor or transmission or both. It will cost too much time and money. Just sell the car and get a proper 6MT.

Sheesh, you guys never give anybody a break. He did the right thing. He searched, found a thread asking the same question, and posted there instead of making a new thread. Its not his fault nobody answered the original post.
Also, why the incredulity about the 6 port auto? They've existed since 2008-ish I believe. I'm not positive on the year they were introduced, but I know they exist, and have for a while.
EDIT: Wikipedia confirms it was 2006

Wow, your right. I had no idea mazda made the Auto a 6 port, it makes no sense but sure. There is no reason for the 6 ports in an auto because you cant rev passed 7500 and that is about where the last 2 ports open.
However I am sticking with the second part of my post.

Don't get me wrong, I agree 100% with you on that. It makes no sense to me to buy an auto then spending extra money to do the swap.

I asked around and with tuning, the 6 port auto is tuned and ran liek the 6mt. 9K rpm very similar power. Probably loses a little due to the transmission but thats it. So if you dont like to use a clutch or have a lot of in town driving stop and go stuff, the auto 6port is not a bad way to go. I dont know how good the paddle shift transmission is. Probably a little soft which is no fun.

ok guys check it,
1)yes its a 6 port auto (2007)
2) there is less power because the rev range is lower
3) when u swap to manual u have the same amount of power as the normal manual
4) its not very expensive if you have the 6 port auto, all u need is a starter, clutch kit, tranny, wiring harness and new pedals. some little things here an there but i bought all these parts for about 1000-1500, some used some new.
5) its plug and play, the only hard part is the ecu. you need the ecu from a manual car, some say they used the auto one but went to a mazda technician that helped em out.
6) over all it should be about 2500 for the labor and parts
7) the reason i didnt trade it in and get a manual car was because it was my first car that i bought (got it at 17, now 18) with my own money. There was a lot of sentimental value of the car.
8) i no longer have the rx8 because some lady pulled out from her parallel parking spot without looking into the street, my front right tire wedged behind her front left tire and ripped mine off the axle. totalled.
9) i now have a 2010 audi s4
10) i only came back because i keep getting emails to my phone about this thread and wanted to clear up some stuff
good luck if u do the swap, yes its more practical to trade in for the stick.
