6k rpm rev limit?

I have noticed on certain days if i give my car anywhere under 10 minutes to start up in the cold weather I will go and seems the engine is running tight.

Today It was warm considering the time of year about 48 i think when i sat in my car to start it. I gave it about a minute or so to start up since it was pretty warm out. I go to pull out of my street and at 6k rpm my car was bogging and a rev limiter had kicked in. I have an 2004 manual. I know in the cold you should not run the car that high. But today I just pulled out and needed that about 7k.

Normal problem??

Your engine isn't fully warmed up and that is why it does that. You would have a problem if it did that when the engine was fully warmed.

It's generally a better idea to keep it below 6000 when it's cold - if you are getting into traffic situations where you NEED that extra power right after starting up in the morning, you're driving too aggressively.

Let your baby warm up before you push her to the top.

you're only driving too aggressively when you're bumping cars off the road GTA style.

stop raping your engine. That's exactly what you're doing to it, and the computer is *trying* to stop you. BMW also does this.

It takes 5 to 10 minutes to properly hot up a car for bangin' it good.

Just because the needle (which is a little lying tramp anyway) reads "normal" doesn't mean all is to temp. First water, then oil -- in that order. Oil's the last one to come up, and that's why we rue the lack of a real oil pressure gauge. It *tells* you when she's ready for the spurs.

it may be warm outside to you, but to your car... 'warm' is much much hotter.

Huh, i wonder what most people keep their revs below before having a fully warmed up engine? I remember seeing someone's post before saying 3k too, but it getting on my nerves the lack of power :-(. More worried about engine life though.

I've never had that happen to me on my '04 - must be a newer model trick. I've visited 7K or higher before on a cold engine ... it's a lease - what the heck.

Hey Munche, I love that hood in your pic for my BB. Sorry if I'm stupid but, those vents are open to the engine? If so, I'd get too much snow in there.

snow melts and becomes water.

you dont think that a little water hasnt been in your engine bay before? have you ever driven in the rain before?

I keep it below 4,000 until the temp needle has been in the normal range for a little while.
