8 as a Business Vehicle
I was wondering how many people use their 8 as a work car. I am a State Farm Agent in Alabama and have had my 8 for about 6 months. My prior vehicles have been, Honda Accord, Chevy Tahoe, Ford F-150 and now my 8. I can honestly say that the looks I get and the fun that I am having in my 8 cannot be beat. I have often taken clients out (one at a time of course) and they just cannot wait to get in the car. It looks so good with my personalized tag too (ST8 FRM) in brilliant black. The only drawbacks that I have are that it can only hold one set of golf clubs in the trunk and that people think that it's a $40,000 car. Thats not always good when the company decides to raise rates and people think their agent is driving around in a high dollar vehicle. Anyways, I am having so much fun and am glad that I don't look like every other Agent in town driving their SUV's.

I doubt that helped you any, but I wouldn't have any problem with it.

Yes it is sad that people think that way. Of course they don't want to hear about the debt that I went into when I started and the number of hours put into growing ones business. I am an independent contractor and not an employee like most other companies so everything you see in my office and my staff comes out of my pocket. I have a good friend that lives in a smaller town than mine who drives an 88 Ford Tempo as his work car cause he caught so much grief from people where he lives. He keeps it parked at his lake home and drives his BMW every morning to the lake, parks it, and gets into the Tempo. I actually prefer independent business people to drive nice vehicles. It is a sign of stability in many cases and hopefully that person will be in business next year when you need him again.

My insurance agent buys herself a new car every other year. She drives very nice cars, and every one has to be modded for her disabilities. I doubt she's owned a sub-$50K car in the last twenty years.
She's also the smartest, hardest working agent in a state rich with insurance expertise, and the #1 producer for her carrier in the entire country. I'm not rich by any means, but she treats me like I was her biggest client. I'm sure her other clients all get the same treatment.
If someone chooses their insurance agent/investment broker/banker/etc. by how cheap a car they drive, then they're an idiot and deserve the cheap level of service they'll probably receive.
Enjoy your professional RX-8 and let people know you earned it. In the long run I bet you'll attract a better customer base. If you lose a few cheapskates so what? They're often more trouble than they're worth.
