8 performing like a champ.

I think reading these blogs has got me paranoid. I keep expecting something bad to happen.

Been using the 8 as a daily driver this winter. During the past week or so, we've been in a cold snap up here with temps around -15C, -20C. Not to mention that I've really been abusing the car - lugging the engine, stop and go traffic (traffic up here in winter is a nightmare), not warming the car, not redlining the engine, not checking the oil, etc.....(basically all the bad stuff). Every time I got into the car I secretly hoped that it would turn over. Well guess what, the car performed like a champ (so far)! I even stalled the car today backing out of the driveway, but it did not flood and started right up.

As far as driving in snow and on ice, it performs as well any other car I've owned in past 20 yrs (with exception of Subaru OUtback). Driving on 17-inch Blizzaks on steel rims. Put in winter washer fluid, winter wiper blades. No special oil, just the normal dealer supplied stuff.

Anyways, 45,000 kms and still no major gripes. Cheers.

Not warming the car, not redlining the engine, not checking the oil.... if I or anyone did that, it would just be a matter of time before we needed a new engine.

At some point, the oil will run out.

Why would you not check the oil! Some owners baffle me.

Why check the oil if you know you don't possess the cold tollerance to perform an oil change? Ignorance is bliss...

And if the roads are as bad as he's making them sound, chances are oil change places are closed or jam-packed from everyone's car getting f**ked by the cold.

IF you change your oil like me (every 1.5-2.5K miles) I dont check my oil. I top it off each time, and before I change my oil I will dump about 1/2 quart of new oil in, Run a while maybe 50 miles or so, then I change it.

Nice and Fresh and no Mess

you guys do realise there is an oil warning light that comes on when the level is low don't you ? Yes I've had it come on & it made me panic until I realised it just means the level is low - not that oil is not flowing .

the level sensor is too low in the pan for me to feel comfortable about waiting for the light to come on

i mean, any lower and it would be outside of the pan

Warming up the car is not neccessary, as long as you do not abuse the engine until it is warm (or very close to).

Not redlining is NOT bad, it just needs to be done every once in a while. You RX8-clubbers think way too much about carbon build up, it's really not as big of a deal as you make it out to be.

Not checking the oil, meh, ok, that can be bad. But I mean, you don't "have" to check it except every 1000 miles or so...

My car has had no problems and runs like new as well.

There's no other car with the exquisite handling and mid engine 'feel' I've ever driven any where near this price point.

When I drive 99% of other cars now I'm bored as hell.

I'm willing to bet that your old motors (at least one) was replaced because the mechanic who diagnosed it was retarded, either mentally, or was just dropped on his head when he was little. He could've also been one of those "by the book or die!" type of guys, who knows!

I swear, I'm only 16, but Mazda should hire me as an RX8 mechanic..I don't know half the things a lot of people on this board know, and yet I'm still a lot more knowledgeable than these "rotary technicians". That is IF they are even trained.

That said, I'm at 40.3k miles, and it hums. I expect it to for a good 100,000-150,000 miles more, assuming I still have it.
