8 woes..
So after finally getting the new tranny in to fix my problems with 3rd and 6th gear, I've put 1,000 miles on it (on top of the 700). I've driven it fairly nicely, I haven't raced it, drifted, or shifted like a maniac. Been fairly gentle with it.
Except it seems I wasn't gentle enough.. 3rd gear will now refuse to engage unless I skip it and go into 4th, and then back into 3rd.
If I'm downshifting, I have to go into 2nd, and then 3rd.
Occasionally it'll work fine, but it feels like it grinds even though there's no noise.
So I called MazdaUSA back, and they immediately started quizzing me on whether I race it, modify it, blah blah.
Now, it turns out, my dealership has closed it's doors. Not that they were great or anything, but I have to take my 8 about 50miles North now.
I'm starting to think the 8 they gave me is round, yellow, sour, and citrus flavored..

Well, took it to dealership, they said it's "perfectly normal." I wasn't aware that gears 1-4 were supposed to be 2-4x rougher than 5 and 6 when engaging them, and that 2nd and 3rd were sometimes supposed to not let me shift into them.
(Yea.. it has worsened since I posted the thread).
But hey.. what do I know, they say it's normal and the car is perfectly fine. It doesn't feel fine at all, far from it.
Not exactly sure what to do now..

sounds like they never fixed the tranny problem over the years. had the same thing happen in my 04. going home one evening, could no longer shift into 3rd. but mine was the original transmission.

my tranny was a nightmare, the day it blew at 30K miles was a dream come true. My new trans has been great! It has a small leak but no problems and I drag race and drive like an ***
It has a warranty, let the bitch blow then get a new one.

Keep in mind that he has an '09 which has a totally different transmission than previous 8's, so past experiences may not apply.
Sorry to hear about your problems... I had heard some good things about the new transmission compared to the original, but it doesn't sound like you're having any luck
One thing you might want to check is if the clutch pedal is adjusted properly. If the clutch isn't quite disengaging all the way it will cause hard shifts and wear out your synchros.

how long dose it take for the rx8 to fail all around? lol i hope not, everything seems ok on my 06 with 12500 miles, i have a question. what about the 8 year warranty or 100,000 miles, on the rx8, can i take my car any dealer with out paperwork? or how much would they change me to just look over the car?

BTW, theres no set 'death' date to an rx8, its like any other car. It depends on the driver, your maintanence, etc. Mine is an 04 with 71K with no engine problems.

They have improved it...but there are very few out there and to be honest, some of the builds weren't the greatest. I can tell you this, the ones we have had in our race cars work like a champ! Give it some time, still gotta work the bugs with the new tranny.
