I propose we do something so different that it would make Mazda proud of our group. They have given us such positive reinforcement that it's time we as a large active group, put together a letter of thanks and appreciation for the 8/100 extension. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how we can put this together and have everyone sign it? Maybe we could do it in some kind of dedicated online page that appends names to a letter or something really cool that they could go to and see just how much we REALLY do appreciate what they have done. Suggestions, thoughts and expertise would be much appreciated. I don't think they would ever expect the reverse of a petition!
... maybe this thread will actually do the same thing, do you think Mazda is reading this?

Oh, and thanks Mazda for letting me know how to add oil to my 2004 RX-8

Im sure he will tell you himself but he has read the comments here and sent many of them up the chain. Mazda is very psyched to be able to provide this and put their wallet behind the Rotary and they are very grateful for the appreciation you guys are showing.
You may have just noticed i said Jeremy will say so himself. He'll be posting most likely Friday morning, and will answer as many questions as he has time for and is able to.
So as i said yesterday get your questions and your feedback ready because you'll get the opportunity Friday to basically ask/tell Mazda directly.
I hope it goes with out saying that i wish everyone to be polite with our guest- and remember he wont answer any questions about future product

1. Recommendations for heavier oil by experienced rotary engine rebuilders seeing early bearing wear. Differing Mazda recommendation in US vs other countries.
2. Premix to better lubricate the center apex seals.
3. Sohn adapter and/or use of synthetic oil
Would love for him to get the honest perspective of Mazda's best engineers and share it here.
Thanks again!

That's great, Zooom! I'll be working Friday, but I hope some knowledgable types will be around to politely ask about some of crucial issues being discussed here:
1. Recommendations for heavier oil by experienced rotary engine rebuilders seeing early bearing wear. Differing Mazda recommendation in US vs other countries.
2. Premix to better lubricate the center apex seals.

Gotten my package today. The DVD is nicely presented.
One instruction in the DVD contradicted what my dealer told me. The thingy about revving it to 3K RPM ...
1) In the DVD, it says rev to 3K for 10 secs
2) Let go accelerator to idle
3) turn off engine
My dealer told me to skip (2) and turn off the engine at 3K RPM after 10secs. Did your dealer tell you that?

otherwise you never have to do his advice ...
just wait 3-5 mins to reach norm. temp. and you will have no worries !!!

It will be interesting to see the first guys who actually take advantage of this new engine core parts warranty (8/100K), and what this will really means in terms of what is covered and what is not. I'm still not sure if labor is covered and all Mazda is really doing is paying for the rotors and seals. It could mean an $8K engine replacement will 'only' cost us $7K???

On 11/27/07 I had 65,100 miles on my car and my motor went. Keep in mind the new motor that was put in was my third motor in the car and the first one i had to pay for. I am waiting to get my letter in the mail so i can send in the paperwork for my reimbursement. Hopefully our we will have answers for our questions soon. I called Mazda NA the our day and could not get an answer from them and the guy would not allow me to talk the warranty department.

He did the same for an issue in the past. Good guy, and very nice of him to venture into the tepid waters of 8club.
It doesn't matter how long the warranty is if the dealership sucks. But I still believe Mazda is busting it's *** to stand behind the rotary. There's always another dealership, though.
Nice sentiment, but for now the extension is really only some words on a piece of paper. The problem in the past has been the organizational dysfunction that makes the customer the pickle in the middle between Mazda corporate, and the dealership. If Mazda failed to provide good servicing of the original warranty, what now has changed to make getting coverage under the 8/100 warranty any less of a hassle?

Good Qs. Copied so I can find them easy in case they don't get asked by anyone else on Friday.
I'll have to re-read it to see if labor costs are spelled out, but I would assume labor is covered just like any other warranty work.

^ yep, bought mine used back in 2005 and got the packet in the mail yesterday. I would think this warranty goes with any (w/o warranty voiding mods) RX-8 regardless of owner.

It would be great if we could get a definitive answer, yes or no, to the following question:
"Will use of synthetic oil in the RX-8 void the warranty"?
Yes or no. I don't want to hear about what is "recommended".

I talked with my local dealer service manager this morning, and my engine replacement has been approved by Mazda Canada.
Yay!
Interestingly, the engine is coming from Mississippi, so I suspect this means they still have rebuilt inventory from the old rebuild plant..
Anyway, in about a week to 10 days we will see..
Yesterday I faxed a copy of the letter from teh US regarding the warranaty extension on engines to the dealer service manager.
While on the phone today with the service manager I asked him if he had received it.
He acknowledged he had, and told me he discussed it yesterday with the Mazda Canada regionals service manager.
That chap had heard of it, but had heard nothing from Mazda Canada about the possibility of this being done in Canada.
I have written a letter to the dealer asking formally for a confirmation or denial of the engine warranty for us in Canada.
I will post what reply I get (if any)
