New Engine
Last weekend I got a flashing CEL, rough idle and the car stalled out on me. Since I can't work on my car in my condo garage, I drove it to my parents house. Last Sunday I changed the plugs, but couldn't do much else as no one had parts available on a Sunday. After changing the plugs, the car still was running rough and stalling. Later the car woulnd't even start! I had it towed to the dealer Sunday night. Monday morning went in at 7am, and spoke with the service manager. I got a call at 10am Monday that they need to replace my engine and cat. I got a loaner for the week. I got my car back today. The engine and cat were covered under warranty. I also had them replace the coils, but had to pay for that on my own. The service I received was excellent, but hope I don't have to go through this again.

So in theory, could a guy buy a used 04 roughly 50K miles, from another owner, and bring it to a dealership, claim "loss of power", get a compression test done, and if it fails the compression test, slip into a new engine right off the bat?
In theory I think that's how it should work right? I'm guessing the dealer would find a way out of it? Or just depend on the dealer. I may try an experiment. I'm looking at buying another used 04 with 50K. It has zero mods on it. I'm thinking of planning this. Telling the dealer of loss of power, also telling them I've replaced the coils and plugs etc, and still a loss of power. Right. I understand that. But if the engine they put into the car originally is failing. That should qualify under the warrenty should it not?

Doubt it.
Several members so far have complained that Mazda is issuing a BS 'you pay for the compression test' edict. Even when it fails they try (though only successfully when a stealership is involved) to charge the owner for the test.
If the car is fine why let some mazda "tech" mess with it in the first place?

No I do have the integrity to pay for the test, I think I misexplained. I guess in simplest terms, if I buy another RX8, from another person, with no mods, would this used 8 fall under the warrenty, if I have trouble with it? I guess I wanted piece of mind knowing that IF for some reason the car's a dud example - losing compression, I'd at least have the option of perhaps getting a new engine under warrenty. Or is the dealership going to say no because it wasnt my car in the first place.

Getting car back tonight...
OMG... three weeks would be tomorrow. God sometimes I hate living in the Northeast. Not many RX8s so no one stocks parts. No new cat needed. They tried to get it to fail for me but no dice.
Anyway... my total bill was $288.00 needed two coils (charged $40.50 ea) and set of plug wires ($90.00) 90 minutes labor at $78.00/hr. (highway robbery)
Can't wait to get it back. Will scan and post all paperwork when I get it.

for a compression test this week im thinkin i need to replace the motor but with all my mods is mazda gonna cover it? i was reading a post from somone else saying that there motor went because the motor was extremly hot butg the guages said it was fine so it was mazdas **** up and this is similar probllem i was having the car seemed like it has been gettin way to hot but the car says no

The warranty issued by Mazda is issued to the CAR, not the owner. Unless a previous owner did something that voided the warranty (which you would have found out when you did a carfax) then the CAR still has a warranty, thus is included in this extended warranty.

RX-8 temp guages are dummy gauges. They are totally useless, and only spike if your engine goes into atmospheric re-entry levels of heat.

motor is blown i broiught it in. sest service ive ever heard of tho i towed the car to the dealer without calling on sunday by 9 on monday i got a call they looked at the car and it had no compression i said can it be rebuilt he says no it has to be changed so i say **** how much? service manager says its covered under warantee bring down your stock headers!!!!! i bring the headers down hand them to the guy and he says you will be back on the road by next week. wtf is up with this lol i have never heard of anything like this it seems to good to be true they asked for no money and no maintanance recipts or anything no arguements even with all my mods

58 k but the motor been gettin real hot and have had power loss pretty much all summer i was just scared to go in i didnt wannna be payin 7 gs for a new motor but i guess i shoulda gone in a while ago. anyone got suggestuions on how to keep the new motor from blowing or was this just cause of a mojor defect they fixed now in the new motors

I purchased my 2004 AT used in Oct '06 (72k miles). I soon began to experience all the classic sick rotary engine symptoms - rough idle, frequent stalling, etc. It finally gave up the ghost last September (86k miles).
At the time of the failure, it was out of factory warranty. Needless to say, I had to eat all of the repair costs to install a reman.
After the new extended 8/100,000 warranty came out this year, I attempted to recover these costs. My request was denied by Mazda because of a mod that had been done to the air intake (Umnitza carbon fiber box).
We all know that this mod was in no way related to the cause of the failure (this was per their very own service manager). The failure was caused by a poor engine design as evidenced by the thousands of replacements that necessitated the 8y/100k extended warranty.
I have since filed a lawsuit against Mazda over their failure to honor the warranty. If this does end up in court, I could really use some additional information from anyone who also had this particular mod yet received their reman engine without problem. How can Mazdz honor this warranty work in some cases yet deny it in others?

these ******* are playin wit me cause my car is gettin done free everyday now they say it will be ready tomorow and now that i said i dont want a new clutch for 500 it will prolly take longer. tryin to say my clutch is pretty warn i have 58k on it and the clutch was perfect wen i had it. scumbags better not hack my **** now
