About to buy an 04 RX8

don't take me the wrong way. im not blaming Vyn nor am I saying he is the one deterring people from buying this car. im just saying, there lots of post on here, prolly 80/20% "warning* people about all these things wrong with this car. its good to know about things that are common issues but to tell people that "down the road" and "in the near future", you are going to have problems, is just so plain and basic. EVERY CAR will have issues "down the road" and i just cant stand how people get on here and try to give their "expert" opionion about something they prolly don't know a whole lot about. thats all im trying to say.

I agree... but many people only find the forums or come to the forums when they have a problem... so by reading this it does appear that the car has way more problems than it actually does.
And its true... you have to be careful of people that get on here and give out poor advice without having the experience or tangible evidence to back it up.

The important thing is that you're comfortable with it. This forum offers very easy solutions to all the of the problems I mentioned above.
The biggest concern you've already covered, and that's the compression test. The rest are nickel and dime fixes.
Where in Ohio? We have a very a very active 8 club in the Cleveland/Akron area.

I'm in Toledo unfortunately. I posted asking if anyone lived in my area but didn't get any bites... I'm too busy right now with school but if I don't get anyone living close by then I'll probably drive to Akron or cleveland for a meet up. Any suggestions about the tail light?
As for the tail lights. Its caused by a leaky tail light gasket which only takes about 15 to change, as for the repair. . . its touchy... the "proper" way to fix them is removed them, let them dry out, and replace the tail light gasket with a new one that you ordered and cost $$.
However, the gaskets are prone to leaking, so you may have to replace it more than once (maybe not, but then it costs more $$$)
The other method that I have used with success is just drilling 3 very small holes in the black base of the tail light to allow air to circulate and moisture to drain. Some on the forum call this a "barbaric" fix, but in my experience, its worked permanently and my tails have been fog free. speaking of free, so is this method. Assuming you have a power drill.
Kindness is relative term:. . . by forum standards, I think I'm very kind. And with such kindness I'll say this... before ever posting a new thread on any future questions you have, spending about 10 minutes searching for the information you're looking for. That is the number one complaint of people on this forum. That, and MPGs

We have a member up in Toledo at school right now... but I think he's going to transfer to Cleveland State in the fall.
