about the gas the rx8 uses!

im curious as to why the rx8 is recommended with 96 octane gas? i've havent seen 96 anywhere and besides i live in CA, 93 is the most i've seen but now 76 gas stopped carring it and now only has 92. i've also heard mixed things about what kind of octane our rotary engines need(earlier rx's was said to utilize 87 better), and i know that the renesis engine is diffent than previous rotaries, so... whats the deal with the gas?

Welcome to the forum. You'll find a wealth of information by clicking the search button - years of discussions. To answer this question again...the 96 octane is 96RON. At your favorite gas pump, you might have noticed on the octane stickers the formula (R+M)/2. The RON rating is added to the manufacturer's rating, and divided by two to give the average. The average is what you see on the pump. Your local premium is 96 RON more or less.
