about Mazda RX8
hello everybody
im a Mazda fan recently i own a Mazda 3s 2.3 liter 08 red, im thinking of selling this car and buy Mazda RX8
i need an advice about something so i decided to ask a professionals so:
yesterday i went to cars show room and i found this mazda RX8 with 45000 mile i loved the car it had all the options and it is automatic
what kept me afraid of buying it is that when i tested the car there was the DSC light blinking does that mean the Dynamic stability control is not working? ( how to fix it and how much it will cost me to fix it )
the car vibrate when it is not moving (is that normal?) and it vibrate more when i accelerate when it is still not moving. so what is the pb or this is normal with the RX8 cuz it have a raw power engine? ( by the way the car was very low on gas ) or this means that the engine is started to die?
cuz i read about the rotory engine in this car lots of ppl complain about it.
is ir true what i read or it is just that those RX8 owners doesn't know how to take care of their car, cuz i read there is a steps of how to take care of it and nothing will happen to the car like when you start the engine you have to let it worm up first and to not turn it off right away other that that you will have your engine flooded etc etc...
the price was 13281.25 USD and i still can get it cheaper
so any advice? do i buy it or what?

Before the flame fest begins, these answers have all been answered already so searching is going to be your best friend here. In any case
1. DSC light blinking may mean that you just need to reset the DSC. If the battery was disconnected or died, you just need to turn the wheel to lock left, then right, and that should get it to stop blinking. (i dont have DSC so maybe someone can correct me here, but i think that will get that fixed for you)
2. The whole car vibrates? It is normal for the stick to vibrate on idle if it is a MT but not the whole car. Sounds like it could be a few things. Before you purchase ask for a compression test and for them to check the coils/plugs. It could be anything from a failed compression, to bad coils/plugs, to a bad cat. These are all common issues and can be resolved easily (minus the compression)

Lol can't answer that yet until you get some tests run on it. Get your results and post here and I am sure you will get some more advice. If they are serious about selling they will do that no problem.

im not a handicap but i live in a traffic place so automatic is easier to drive and a lot slower too i dont like automatic cars. i love manual its more fun to drive and a lot faster but the way i found only available in automatic and semi auto and gear change behind the steering wheel like Ferrari cars lool any way i will do my best to buy a manual one but is there a big different between them
cuz i have mazda3s 2.3 automatic and it goes from 0-60 in 10 sec while the manual goes in 7.4 sec a big different here though 2.6 sec

Wasn't trying to be ignorant. Just stating if he's physically able to drive a manual he should look into that as well. Maybe my choice of words were a little to blunt. Sorry if I offended you Pico..
Many older used auto's have a higher % rate at having something fail much quicker than would a manual in the same condition.

04-05 autos are very slow for the 8's. They also have the most problems as well. If your die hard set on a auto, look for 06+.
Reason is they switched from a 4port to the 6port engine, and also added a 5th & 6th gear to the transmission. Which ultimately added more horsepower to the auto, but unfortunately due to the automatic transmission the red line is lower so its still slower than a standard 6 speed 8.

I would probably stay away from *that* car.
Was this a Mazda Dealer? A Mazda Dealer would be able to check all the recalls and check compression, etc...
Whole car vibration with engine reving is not normal for the RX8 unless there is a problem. Engine/transmission mount maybe?
When buying a used RX-8, be very carefull about maintenance records. If the previous owner didn't take care of it, an auto RX-8 with 45,000 miles on it could be very near the engine life expectancy. #1 thing to do is a compression check. #2 thing would be coils.

I have a small post count so I know I shouldn't be talking but the frequency of these threads is laughable. Pretty much a daily occurrence.

but Im in NYC and it has the worst traffic ever and I still be able to drive Manual. In fact I had 3 manual before yeah Even my Honda FIT was a manual but then I trade it in for a Mazda 3 Auto because my family and my gf needs to drive. Father drives a manual before I was even born but he is getting old and have back problem so Auto is the only way. and this is the only reason (medical condition) that prevent someone driving a Manual. Lazy? thats not a reason in my book.

I agree also. Not only are you going to have a slower RX8, but you're not going to have as much feel for the car (IMO). I had an automatic car, and if I buy sports cars I'm never going back. But, your decision in the long run, if that's what you want then that's what you want.

My father was very competent at manual transmissions, but always bought automatics. I once asked him why. He said that if he could get a machine to do work for him, why should he bother doing it himself.
So it's just preference.
Isn't there a forum rule agains flaming people because they prefer auto?

How I can know if that RX8 was 2004 or 2006 year made?
When I asked them they told me it was 2008 but I didn't believe them when I asked about the car is history they told me they don't know anything about it's history
No it wasn't a Mazda show room ( not Mazda dealer ) it's a regular car show room for all type of cars

It is proper forum etiquette to do a basic amount of research before starting generic "should I buy" threads in any enthusiast community. Usually even a little evidence of this will fend off flame-throwers, and it's ok to admit missing some major things and asking to be pointed in the right direction for further help.
People who buy auto in cars like this typically (but not always) represent a drastically different demographic than those who buy manuals. They usually want something with a degree of sensibility and practicality, and likely chose an RX8 based on looks and it's nifty rear seat/access over its actual driving experience. I think they are more prone to buyer's remorse when the realities of maintenance and gas mileage set in.
With that in mind, if you are an enthusiasts then don't buy it and wait for a manual. If you are a casual driver wanting a fun car with a sporty nature then also don't buy it and get a Civic Si or an RSX. Either way read all the stickies in the major sub-forums to be certain at what you are getting into.
And don't buy a car that vibrates for that much cash. Crap.
