about my last post about rx8 sports car
wtf is with this. Im not trying to start a flame war. I am actually getting ready to buy an rx8 and I posted that stuff because that is what i read 350z people saying on their forum about the rx8. I was trying to get some different opinions about the rx8 before i bought. I want to really make sure its the car i want before i go and spend alot of money on it. I really appreciate being called a troll by people that i expect to help me out with stuff after i get the 8. THANKS!!!

dude, the 350z page is not a good place to get advice about an RX8... and i would almost say this site is not good to get advice about a 350z... read an UNBIASED review in the car magazines... people who rate these cars are professionals who do it everyday... BUT if you want a good 0-60 car... the 350z is a better choice!

I suspect the 350Z folks are threatened over the several auto magazine articles that picked the 8 over the Z in head-to-head competition. Sometimes when people feel threatened, they attack. That was evidenced on the Z site, and you later experienced it here. My choice was not between the 8 and the Z, I need four doors and four seats, so my choices were between the 8 and the WRX. The WRX is an excellent vehicle, and a formidable competitor. After researching everything I could find on both vehicles, I chose the 8, and bought my black 8 last Sunday. I am definitely not sorry I bought the 8, and I would buy again today. The look, the sound, the handling, and the looks you get from others make it worth buying for me.
I was very concerned with gas mileage, but I filled my tank the first time yesterday, and averaged 17.5 MPG with almost all city driving. Good luck on your journey, and if you choose the 8, let me be the first to welcome you to the club.

Drive them bothand decide yourself.
Both cars are selling in the thousands. There is no right or wrong just personal choice.

Both cars are sports cars.
But:
- The RX-8 has beaten the 350Z in every TV show and mag article I've read.
- The RX-8 has 4 seats.
- The 350Z has only 2 seats, but has a convertable.
- The 350Z has better 0-60 times, and is better suited for drag racing than the RX-8 will ever be because of the rotary engine having lower torque. On the other hand, a Mustang would be a better choice if you just wanted 0-60 times. And cheaper.
- The RX-8 outhandles the 350Z when comparing stock cars.
- The 350Z can get slightly better gas mileage.
- The RX-8 is a lighter car.
- The 350Z has a rougher ride, but in a sports car that isn't such a big deal.
I liked both cars, but I ultimately picked the rx-8 because I have a 5 year old son who'd have to sit in the trunk if I bought the 350.

Unbiased info from a mature RX-8 owner:
The Z is brawny and fast. It makes a lot of power at all revs. It's more macho, if you will. It is also very noisy inside, feels heavier, the ride is harder, and it isn't as tossable. It's great if you want an aggressive looking car. It's great if you want to street race. It's not as tossable as the 8. It's not as quiet. It's not as easy to live with day to day. It may not be built as well as the 8. It may get better mileage.
The cars are very different. The Z feels a lot more powerful. Personally, I really liked it for what it was, but it had no space inside and killed my ears after 15 minutes. And, it understeers. A lot.
The Z seems like it's always looking for a fight where the 8 just wants to have fun.
For some people, the Z is a better choice. If you wear baseball caps backwards and go cruising looking for trouble, get a Z. You will win a lot of stop light drags.
If you drive for yourself and want a comfortable, lightweight, easy to drive sports car, get an 8. Another thing to remember about the 8 is that it's unique - some people don't "get" it. A lot of people "get" a 287hp Z smoking its tires at a stoplight and hanging with a Mustang GT. In fact, I think the Z appeals to plenty of Mustang GT types who finally have a sportscar with V8 level power delivery.
The Z is an uncompromising old-school sports car with a lot of motor, and that motor is not smooth. The 8 is a very smooth running and driving lightweight sports car that happens to be somewhat practical and very comfortable and quiet.

If you do a search (here and google), you'll find lots comparisons between the RX8 and 350z.
The RX-8 is a sports car because of its performance (superb road feel, neutral handling, excellent braking, toss-ability, tight steering, smooth shifting, instant throttle response, etc). Note that high power is not a sports car requirement (but the RX-8 has higher power/weight than say the Miata and MR2).
Some traditionalists say that the RX-8 is not a sports car because a sports car must be about singularity in purpose and having 4 seats (let alone 4 doors) goes against that. This position is derived from sports cars of long ago having only 1 seat and no amenities.
However, as technology and designs improved, a second seat, climate control, sound deadening materials, stereo, and power locks/windows became common on sports cars. Even the Lotus Elise (one of the most extreme sports car today) has several of those features, which strictly speaking, are compromises that disqualify it from being called a sports car going by the old definition. Or look at the McLaren F1, a car that was built to be the *ultimate* sports car, without any consideration for cost or other factors. Yet it has 3 seats.
There are now several vehicles that blur the lines between sports, GT, sport-compact, muscle, and rally cars. Each of those vehicle classes is about specific performance attributes... it comes down to design focus. The RX-8’s suicide doors and rear seats do not compromise it enough to offset all of the RX-8’s other design choices made to maximize its performance. Mazda built it to be the world’s first 4 door sports car and they succeeded because no “sports-sedan” has the RX-8s handling, toss-ability, and road feel (and frankly neither does the 350z, but it has other advantages).

well the point being is this, i don't want a 350z and i have test driven both cars. over a year ago i was going to get a 350z and then my wife got pregnant. now i have a 2 month old son and a 4 door sports car is more my thing. anyways i like the rx8 better. i was asking people on the 350z forum because they seemed like they knew alot about other cars than a 350z and i wasn't trying to compare either one. to me they are totally different. i just wanted some opinions and then all the sudden i got flamed here for posting what they said about the 8 and i got flammed their because they just think the 350z is some superiour car, when i wasn't comparing the 2. All i wanted to know was if the 8 was the best choice out there for a 4 seat, rwd car around 25k. I could care less about gas mileage. People on this site are biased towards the 8 and would probably tell me to get it no matter what because that is what they own. Thats why i never asked here. I wanted opinions of people that don't own the car but have test driven it and other various cars.

the biggest point of all is this. i went onto the 350z site and asked what sports car with 4 seats would be best for me. i think the 8 would be. Then i get these comments. the 8 isn't a sports car, its a 4 door sporty sedan. Thats why i came here and posted something because every single person on here says the 8 is a sports car... What makes it a sports car to you guys and a 4 door sedan to the 350z people? sure can't argue that 2 seats makes a sports car, hell the f1 has 3 seats, skyline has 4, and supra have 4. if only 350z owners were as educated as Deslock on what makes a sports car. good explanation!

P.S. My two-year old loves riding in the 8! It's really fun when I go to the mall and notice some guy in a typical grocery-getter checking out my 8. The look on his face when I pull the stroller out of my trunk and get my son out of the car is always priceless :D

There is nothing wrong with the 350Z and I think this site is a little more likely not to bash other cars than the 350Z sites (okay maybe a lot more likely not to).
I drove both, I was also very interested in the EVO (like the WRX). Even the sales people told me I could not compare the 8 to the EVO.. I laughed... it doesn't matter what anyone says or writes... you just need to drive them, decide what is important to you and then go for it.
Reason I didn't pick the Z: although I thought the tried and true piston engine might be better for me I wanted a sunroof, I preferred to have 4 seats, and I didn't like the big support bar that cut the trunk area in half. And the biggest thing... the people having trouble with the tires...
Reason I didn't pick the EVO: boring, stripped down interior (no gadgets), turbo was cool, too stiff... just good if you want straight speed.
Reason I picked the 8: didn't think I'd have any trouble with the gas mileage, thought people complaining probably drove like maniacs (I was wrong, although my mileage isn't hideous, it's not what I expected 18.5 average), the flooding thing scared me, still does. BUT.. it's a beautiful, sexy, fun, comfortable, gadget filled dream..... and after having it for 2 months, I'm used to RWD and this thing corners like crazy and it's not slow by any means. I'm not a street racer and even in the best car I'd probably lose, I'm just not into that (although I notice just driving normally I leave most people behind at the lights)... I wouldn't trade this car for anything at this point. I really LOVE IT !!! LOVE IT !!! LOVE IT !!!!!

ok ,, so your not a troll .. we all get that.. but, first you need to make a decision like buying a car, for yourself and no one else.. so the above statement just pisses me off cause you know all of us here love the 8 .. so if your looking for unbiased oppinons then go to road and track .... but if you want to know whats really good about the car.. and whats not so good.. then the RX8 club is the place for you.
Remember that we are intrested in the car.. not all the other bull ****.. so being accused of being a troll as your first meting with us .. well thats not such a bad thing.. Just showes you we are very Serious about our 8's
Goodluck.. and enjoy your 8.. you know you want it just go get it .

Unfortunately, a few people around here seem to be overly judgemental and seem to have some kind of misplaced "superiority complex". They tend to jump to conclusions about other people's intentions and seem to get a big kick out of "correcting" people.
