I have a set of portable severe tire damage strips I lay out across the parking lot before I pull out. Once I've backed out of the spot I pick them up, toss them back in my trunk and off I go. Problem solved.
It's rediculous that the person who has greater visibility shouldn't have to yeald right of way. Even when I back into a spot, If theres a GMC yukon to my left, and a hummer to my right, how the heck am I supposed to see oncoming traffic before pulling out? All I see is sheet metal.

All I see is an opportunity to live out a real life GTA fantasy. If only it were as easy to jack a vehicle in real life as in the game.....

Law should be changed, where people backing out of a spot have the right of way. But not going to happen, and if it does, I doubt anyone would bother and it certainly would never get enforced.

My husband taught me something he learned in Iraq. Hit your emergency flashers and hit your horn before slowly backing out. Usually if a driver is paying attention the flashers do the trick. I use that whether I'm driving my 8 or his Sahara. I get soem strange looks but it seems to work. I also "battle park" when I can, (pulling through to the other spot so that you can pull directly out of it). I take a walk around the car from rear to front and check for traffic, door dings, and "boogey men" even in broad daylight before I get in my car to leave.
Sorry to hear about the incident. I was in the same situation, but I wasn't moving and had someone back into me. The other driver lied and said I was trying to pass. It ended up being no fault..

Get them to write a witness report or something, ask them to sign their names on it, and contact your insurance with the info to let them know

Yeah, I work at an automatic transmission factory as a QA Engineer and when we drive our test vehicles we're supposed to honk the horn when entering/leaving the garage area and every time we back up. I've started doing it with my 8 when I cant see things, like backing out of the covered wash station at my apartment complex... Driving only a small saturn for years and as my DD has made me VERY cautious when getting out of spaces already, however.
