Ack, too much oil!

Why don't you just state that you're hoping someone will say "It's not a problem to overfill it." Obviously, you're not looking for the correct answer, you're just looking for someone to say what you want to hear. It's your car -- destroy it if you want.

well i'd drain it 40 miles if it's overilled enough is certainly enough time to cause damage... you could over fill it by 50 quarts and no damage will be done unless you actually try to run the engine. you drain the excess and go on your merry way.

Hah, I went to take it in to have a quart drained, when I got home I checked it again and it was at the exact same spot on the dipstick. I guess the mechanics didn't do a thing but have me sit there for 45 mins.
I'll try again tomorrow somewhere else.

Sorry about assuming you guessed the amount to add and didn't do it based on the oil level on the dipstick.
I'm wondering if perhaps when you checked it the dipstick wasn't inserted all the way - mine sometimes hangs up on the way in. That could give you a false low indication... If it was that low (off the bottom of the dipstick almost) I'd think that you'd have a low-oil light showing, so maybe it was a mis-read when you got the low-level?

They did it for free, well they were supposed to at least, they ended up doing nothing.
I was going to jack the car up and take the plug out myself, but I really hate getting under the car. I'm always worried about the car falling on me. So I'm just going to syphon some out, unless anyone thinks thats a bad idea. :p
If that doesn't work, your right, I should just take it in for an oil change and be done with it.

Not to be silly, but are you sure you're following proper procedure for checking the oil?
Like, take the dipstick out, ignore it and wipe it. Then, put it back in quickly and remove it and check the level.

Yea, I think the big problem was that the oil was really frothy still from the cold weather, so getting an accurate reading was hard, even though I wiped and dipped it a few diff times.

This was before I put the oil in it. frothy oil is common when it gets really cold. It's from condensation leaking into the dipstick housing or something. I was told not to worry about it, so i'm not. :p
