Added S Tech Springs to my R3

...... and what a difference ! Adds a nice drop to it and handles even better, which i didn't think was possible . Also added AP brake lines and some EBC Redstuff pads. Nice upgrade , as well . Springs really gave car an agressive look !

I know i need to add some pics .... prob gonna do that tommorow.

The R3 comes with Blistein shocks, and I already had Agency Power sway bars and links .... So now that I have the S Techs on their i'm pretty much done with the suspension. Not sure what else I could do really without spending a fortune.

At any rate, a lot of people said they were worried about the ride being too hard. I didn't notice that at all. Grips the road I can tell you that, but the ride wasn't bad at all. I didn't ride thru the ghetto with it, lol, but I imagine as long as you stay on reasonable road surfaces you won't even notice much difference . However, you will notice a tighter feel to the handling. Really handles amazingly, esp with the sway bars.

I read on here somewhere to upgrade the car with what it's best at .... which is handling with the 8 , glad i went that route ! Don't get me wrong, plan on upgrading the power , too ..... but this was a great upgrade. Next summer gonna add some new Ignition coils and possibly turbo it.

I'm really interested in finding out what the stock R3 spring rates are. Can you test them? Or do they have any markings on them?

And post pics already!

The same springs are 2nd on my list behind a BHR ignition, only because its not a regular maintenance item. PLEASE post some pics, soon!

Its so hard to see what's a good on series 2 cars because there are so few of us.

with the lowered vehicle I wouldn't expect to see much of a difference. I am interested to learn the difference in spring rates over the coil over choices that are out there.

There's a pretty nice difference, although I doubt it has much to do with the lowering more than just the springs themselves, but the lowering looks nice I think. It's nothing drastic, a little over an inch.

As far as the difference in spring rates , well not sure there but I can tell you that coil overs are a BIG difference price wise. I'm sure there's a difference there or I would hope so for the price difference but not something i really need.

It might be hard to tell by the photos, don't think they're the best .... it did drop the car about an inch or so , but yours may have dropped more. I had a shop install them that I have do all my stuff for the car. Being that i'm in Ohio .... there's VERY few options out here to take the car to. A few places that specialize in high performance stuff , one in my area.

Actually that's not the issue .....

It fits damn near perfect when you put it on , but the problem is that the exhaust runs so damn hot, esp once you remove the cat and use the midpipe, that it melted the F'n plastic molding finishers ! The stainless Steal Finishers aren't available yet for the S2 , only for S1, So I have no other finisher options at the moment, go figure, there's nothing available for this car. Only thing I could do was adjust the fitting so it didn't burn the plastic anymore til they come out with stainless steel finishers. Working on a solution, but haven't been able to really figure anything out yet. You honestly can't really even notice it unless your at a certain angle, which is angle i tool the photo, lol .... but if i buy another set of finishers right now i think they might still melt, even with the adjustment. Hoping the come out with the stainless ones soon.

Right. Its melting the shrouds cos they don't fit at the correct angle...I've been catless for a year and a half with a catback made to fit S2 and it gets really hot too, but hasn't melted anything. The fitment on the S2 is different.

Id say there is another half inch drop left in those springs. Search for pre load threads...u can do it yourself very easy

Ahhhh ok I see what you're saying. That would make sense. Well, hopefully the chrome / stainless moldings will fix when they come out.

As far as the extra drop , i'll check that out .... thanks for the tip

I don't think the springs have settled yet. Drive the car for the rest of the week, maybe two and then you will see a real difference.

That's possibly true .... the car isn't my everyday driver but I've been driving it extra this week and weekend, so may take a little longer to settle, but maybe that will make a difference.

I actually checked the factory springs .... nothing on them.

on the Tein recommended settings , though looks like it drops it about an inch and the shop just went according to recommendations.

how'd the blistein's hold up to the aggressive spring rate? I've heard horror stories of the s techs blowing shocks extremely fast. I have agency power bars and links on my 8 as well so i'm very interested in hearing how this has worked for you long term.
