Clearly...

I've owned 3 MT cars out of 6 total. I've driven the 6MT 8 a few times. I think I know if I'm missing something. But thanks for your fantastic input.

Btw, sticks are good for also.

There's much more to enjoying the drive than rowing through the gears. Though I can do that as well. Maybe you'll see that in a few years.

How about a mountain road, full of turns. A test of driving skill where you try to hit every turn just right. Both hands on the wheel, with gear selection at your fingertips (literally). Good music on the stereo, windows down, sunroof open, just enjoying each and every apex. Don't you guys worry about me at all. I enjoy my car just fine.

I can enjoy a road like this MT or AT:

YEAH!!!! My very first thread and I started a flame war!

I've driven a stick for 20+ years, and there are advantages and disadvantages. I burned out a clutch at Dodger stadium, where the entrance to the parking lot is about a 30 degree grade with bumper-to-bumper stop-and-go traffic, and I know others who have experienced the same kind of thing.

I was pretty amazed at the amount of control the paddle shifters gave me. Not the real thing, but an incredible simulation.

What it boils down to is that marriage is compromise. Would I prefer a stick? Probably, but I think it's still a great car with auto.

Agreed...last sentence is a good one. We got the auto since my wife will be driving it daily. Do I wish I had a stick...nah, if I want to do that I can hop in my FD and go for a spin.

Well said, I own an AT b/c I couldn't drive a stick at the time of purchase but I still love the car and have since driven the MT. The paddle shifters are great fun through the twisties. It's still an 8 people.

Why must all you MT pushers try to convince AT owners that they should be miserable w/their cars?

@ Moleman: lol, I don't see a flame war

@ Tim: Well, that's different

@snizzle: I'm not trying to make you miserable, I'm just hoping you trade in your AT for an MT

It's just that the rx8 is my first car and I had a tough time deciding between MT and AT. I got the MT, learned stick on it, and could not be happier with my decision, when I know I would of regretted getting the AT. That was just my situation though, and I understand it can be different for others. Still, if I had a spouse, I'd do my best to persuade her to get the MT.
