After 8 months of ownership I have finally discovered something...

For months whenever people wanted me to pop the trunk I had to turn off the car and take the keys out and press the trunk button to open it. I had no idea where the button was for this funtion in the car. Today, I have found this magical button and learned that I had to push it to open. That is all. Feel free to flame me for my stupidity.

Ya, I don't know why I did not consult the manual. I guess I just forgot about it when I had the manual in hand. Oh well

"Feel free to flame me for my stupidity."

Two more secrets that can be found in that "amazing" printed material called an Owner's Manual.
You may be "amazed" at the secret compartment in the center console behind the cupholders.
The other secret compartment can be entered between the two back seats.

Man! You guys are harsh! Even MODERATORS are flaming him, very disappointing!
Part of the new car experience (for many of us) is finding all the little "hidden" things.
Give Captain Amazing a break.
Some of us have better things to do in our lives then read every single word in the owners manual...

I can't possibly see how you missed it. Do you ever open your hood? The buttons are right next to each other. A lot of people don't know about the storage compartment behind the cup holders either. You might wanna check that one out too.

lol, I already knew about the other two "secret" compartments behind the cupholders and backseats. Before I found the trunk button today I found the trunk on/off button in the glove compartment and thought maybe that is how I open and close the trunk. So I played with that button for awhile noticing it did nothing. Damn did I ever feel dumb.

Another interesting thing

From the manual - there is an secret button that if you ever get locked in the trunk of the car - which I am sure happens quite frequently - you just have to press this button and it opens the trunk - and for added convenience it also glows in the dark - amazing !!!!! Maybe not a good car for kidnappers!!!!

the one thing i never understood about the glow in the dark handle, most of the time the trunk is closed and dark, so the glow handle will not get a good charge of light to glow....i know that in order to get locked in the trunk in the first place, the trunk would have to be open for at least a short ammount of time....but if it was just for a minute or at night, does it really make that much of a difference?

as a kid I was always just told to try and pull out any wires or anything I could find, hopefuly making the brake lights stop working or something so a cop would pull the car over.

anyway, totaly off topic.....

the short time the kid opens the trunk to get in is enough to charge it for him/her to see it for a moment or 2. unless they do it in a pitch black garage..

Just be sure you don't slam the lid on your wrist! You're kidding about not noticing the handle, right?

LOL think thats bad the Protege5 also has that handle, which most of us didn't notice.

So just picture about 20-30 of us at a meet near a mall all gather around looking at a sub enclosure.

"Hey whats that hole in the trunk lid for?"

Get about 20-30 stares...

"This thing..." *reach up and close trunk*

*watch 20-30 people run to their cars to try it out*

Its even worst in the P5 since the dang thing was right at eye level, you pretty much walk under it when loading the car.

And dang you Hank!!! You said over IM that it closes the trunk by itself. I spent about 15 minutes looking for this magic switch.

Gah!
