Age question
Reading this forum for the past month or so, I get the impression that many if not most of you are in the 18 to 25 age-range bracket.
I'm still in the looking stage for cars, but really liked the RX8 (even did two test drives at two different dealers because I liked the way it drove so much).
Originally, I was planning on getting a new Mustang, but noticed that they seem to be the car of choice for post-high school, early 20 guys and I thought I'd look goofy driving one considering I'm 34.
So my question is, am I too old for the RX8? I don't want to look like some young-punk -wannabe, but I don't want to drive a boring car either.
Any older RX8 drivers out there?

This is not a Honda Civic torbee.
Yes, there are a few young people on this forum who drive an RX-8 but trust me, at age 34, you will not look 'goofy' driving this.
Most people 18-25 cannot afford this vehicle (yes, there are exceptions) so I say ditch the Mustang idea and get an RX-8.
DISCLAIMER: Buying this car will cause your heart to beat like that of an 18 year old virgin on prom night! You'll LOVE it.

Actually, my experience is 75% of rx8 drivers are over 30. I have attended a couple of rx8 meetings and am usually one of the few under 30. Most of the people I see on the road driving rx8's are also usually older. I really wouldn't worry about looking to old, just because your older doesn't mean you have to drive a luxury car, if sports cars is what you like, then get one. I know plenty of older guys still driving sports cars and I don't see anything wrong with that.

I am 38 with a 3-year-old, there are older owners out there.
Maybe most older people don't have that much time to post on boards?
If you like the car get it, what do you care about what kids who you do not know think?

I'm 25 and people look at me like I must have stolen it or something But when I bought my Miata when I was 19 people didn't give a second thought ... Strange!
Most owners I've seen, talked to are in there 30's and the target demo for the car is really 25+ given its a 4 door sports car ... ie. kids Anyways I say if you like it go for it ... it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks!
Cheers,

I was thinking of that poll when I saw this new thread. It's a good poll question, but the results aren't all I would hope for - 151 votes out of 21,000+ members. We could almost collect that many replies in this thread.
Here's me - 33 (as of three weeks ago when I bought my RX-8 for my birthday present to myself ;-) - Three daughters - 10, 8, and 2 and they love the car as much as I do. The wife only rides in the `8 on special occasions. It's *my* car.
I'll tell you what I think is silly - some of my peers and wife's friends (coincidently, many of the ones I don't like or respect anyway) have dubbed this a 'mid-life crisis car'. You may as well be ready to hear that from some idiots if you buy *any* kind of sporty car as a parent in your 30s or 40s. Just be prepared to laugh in their face and say their jealousy is soooo transparent. Seriously, I expect to live way longer than 66 - midlife indeed :scoff:
(Besides, mine is blue, not midlife-crisis-red)
I drove an anonymous grey `95 Subaru Wagon (year-round) as a winter-beater for the last 2 years. About 8 weeks back one of my coworkers asked, "why do you drive a station wagon?" and that was the last straw. Now whether I am dropping the kids at the dance studio or at work or at the store I have the more awesome car on the lot or on the road. No hate against the SUVs, minivans and other parent-mobiles, but honestly, driving the `8 is a whole different feeling which you'll *really* enjoy.

It's really marketed towards older folks who now need the practicality of a sedan, yet still want sports-car handling. Younguns don't usually care about practicality. They want horsepower and two seats, thank you, lol.
And Jedi: my other car *is* a civic. Are you calling me goofy-looking? Huh? Are YA?

Quite a few in their 30's & 40's, myself included. But also several in their 50's and even over 60 as well. The 8 appeals to both young and old, and neither group looks out of place driving one.

I don't post much here..but..this is a interesting thread..
if you know Japanese....go to the JP official mazda RX8 site...it says the car is designated for "Family" with a sporty style....and there is an official message board on that site for ppl to post their feedback of the car...the average age of the ppl post there is around 38-45..and I see 0 of the feedback post by age under 35.......so..I think that this car was oringinally design for "older" ppl with family....
P.S. I am only 23...and I like the car sooo much so I don't care how ppl look at me when I am driving it...lol

Thanks for all the replies.
I feel much better now. After comparing it to the Mustang, it felt much nicer and much more refined, especially in the interior. The Mustang felt like a plastic, high-school kid's car.
I'm prepared for the "mid-life crisis" b.s. already. Several of my friends have already started in on that when I said I was going to finally get myself a sports car.
I just wanted to make sure I don't like some "too fast, too furious" dork driving around in it.
My last two cars were pretty standard suburban yuppie fare - a loaded Honda Accord and now a Volkswagen Passat - but I want something more fun.

Age 52 here. Love my 8. Could be said I am having a late mid-life crisis. Call it what you want but I think I look pretty cool in my 8.
Trouble is my 20 and 22 year old sons think they look even cooler. HEY THATS MY 8

19, bought; in when I was 18. and I feel more out of place sometimes, because I get that look like I'm driving my parents car. Which irritates me to death. I hate age discrimination!

Im 21, I think this car is targeted for people a little older than me, maby 28-38, most people I know that are my age wouldnt buy one even if they can afford it, simply because its not a fast car off the line, younger people tend to want a lot of speed, and done care as much about looks or handling IMO, just look at how many SRT4s there are.

45 here with 3 kids.....1 in his 2nd year of college.
Also considered the stang but loved the handling, looks, and uniqueness of the 8. My wife and I had an 85 RX-7 (white GSL-SE) the 2nd year we were married (before kids) and loved it....had to get rid of it when our son was born. 20yrs later, we again are part of the rotary club!

My wife and I are 25 and 24, respectively, and we are completely in love with the RX-8. When she recently got a new job, we decided it was time to finally purchase our first new car together. Amazingly, there was no real dissention between us (except for AT versus MT, an argument that I lost) -- I had always been a huge rotary/RX-7 fan, so I showed her the RX-8 and she became just as excited about it as I was. Within weeks, we had our new car. It's so fun to stand out from the crowd, have people stare at your car everywhere you go, and to be able to look forward to your drive to work in the morning. Of course, sharing it is tough...
