Age question
#26
Dare I say 68 here? Never thought age had anything to do with the appreciation of or driving a fine vehicle like the RX-8. I also have a 2nd gen RX-7 that I use for track days. Not as fast as I used to be, but hey, I still get my kicks on the track, and sometimee on the road as well.

21 here, I say the car is targeted more toward those who love driving, but also have a family to care for. In my case, the "love driving" aspect of the car is what persuaded me to buy it after test driving its competitors. Around town, the majority of owners I see on the street are definately above the 25 mark. That might be why they don't wave back at me when they see me waving.... wait that's a totally different thread....

Hey! I'm 51 and love my Yellow 8
This may be the last, and only, time my wife says, "Just get whatever you want", but I bought it because I liked it and I don't even pay attention to all the people looking at an old guy driving a sports car.
They don't matter to me. What I like matters to me.

I'm 22. I find that most of the time people don't even look at me when I pass by, they just stare in awe at the car!
I also agree that this car seems more "mature" than other sports cars, like the STi, Evo, and even the S2000. The RX-8 suits drivers of any age IMO.

When I decided to buy the car I wanted at age 56, I needed the back seat for my grandbabies. 'Nuff said??
Actually, I only had the time and money for this car after the kids were gone.

17, and I feel 'goofy' at times. I know two girls younger than me whose parents bought them ATs...but besides that, I have yet to see any male who appears to be under 20 driving an '8. I'm told I look/act older than I look though.

in car&drivers interview with the designer.. fergot his name...
he said that the car was designed for older men who wanted a true sports car that
was still practical.... thats why it doesn't have kick your *** power... but more torque in
the low end... and a very smooth acceleration...

The manual for RX-8 obviously states that this is for all ages. I am 18 and I once saw a RX-8 with an old guy with white hair driving it. I had to admit it felt a bit awkward. But then again everyone is entitled to buy whatever car they wish to drive. A lot of old people remember the hype about the rotary engine, which could cause them to buy the RX-8.
As for the car itself, any age is capable of looking good in it. Most kids my age get the Subary WRX. It does have lots of power, it is cheap, but it looks rediculous. Sometimes I wish I could get more power from my RX-8 with the mpg I'm getting but the features and balance of the car makes up for it. And the RX-8 is really not much more expensive. An Acura RSX equipped pleasantly can cost more than what I paid for my new RX-8. ($22,700 +$400 custom leather)
For the old guys who act young, rock on!

For the middle aged people who act like themselves, you rock too!

Well I'm 33 and would love to own and '8. Never too old for a sports car. It's just that more and more parents are buying expensive cars for their kids. It takes a seasoned adult to really appreciate s fine car like this, as it does for a great many things. I don't know how they afford it. I can't even afford one for myself.

I love my silver '8
I'm 44 and have one teen aged daughter and one closing fast on the teen years. It stresses them out when their friends think my car is cool
If you recognize the strengths of the car and can appreciate it then you belong in the driver's seat with that big grin on your face that we all know.
Glad I'm not the only mid-lifer.
