ahhhh - grasshoper learn tonight

Well, I finally got about 800 miles of gradually raising the rpm. Im now shifting a 8k. I've been babying it for about two weeks, not getting hard on it, just raising the rpm little by little. NOT TONIGHT BABY!!!! I finally got into it.

Now what you must understand is that I was allowed to have a program yellow 8 for the weekend from the dealer to try out. This car had 1500 miles on it, and yes I flogged it - not to abuse, but I hit 8500 several times. NOTHING but smiles.

Well, back to tonight - so i get on it. I was like HMMMMM, doesn't seem as fast as the yellow one was!! Did a few more runs, the same thing - HMMMMMM. Then the light bulb went off - I wasn't pushing the accelerator pedal all the way down. Did a few more runs and went to the floor and the power came on like gangbusters!!!! WOW!!!

Lesson one: PUSH the damn pedal all the way down!!!!! :D

Now this might sound overly simplistic, but my C230 Kompressor didn't have to push the pedal all the way to get max acceleration - so my bad habbit will have to be changed.

Think I can manage that! :D

Hey Knucklehead,
It's "KANSAS" and "TOTO"
Don't they teach "speeling" in "Flow-rita" anymore?
Ten words and five mistakes....

Shut the hell up , I was being funny. It's a take on that jackie chan movie. So don't insult me !

BTW, there's nothing wrong with "isn't" It's a crontraction. And "You're" is a contraction for "You are" So aparently they don't teach grammar in KansASS either.

Haha! :D Not to add fuel to the fire, but that was a damn funny exchange :p

RE: the original post, I get my 8 next month, but while test driving a 6MT, I didn't have to push the pedal all the way down to get the revs up into the 8k area. Actually, I was amazed at how responsive the car was without really getting too aggressive on the accelerator. I guess I should qualify that....when the revs are low then I tend to agree, you need to push the accelerator to get the revs up quickly, but once in the mid range and you're shifting a lot, doesn't take much pressure on the pedal to get up to 8k. This is just what I experienced over a couple of hours, the car had about 2,000 km on it.

oh, I agree with you. I guess I should clarify: I can get to 8k without pushing the pedal to the floor, but when I do push it to the floor it goes to 8k with much morh athourity - it pushes harder.

Haha, no, it was rush hour 2 :D

Anyway, the reason I asked about MT or auto, is that auto transmissions seem to go faster at partial throttle .. I guess because overdrive kicks off.

MT, a 6 speed -

My GTi VR6 (MT 5 speed) also did what my MB did. I think it b/c of the whole drive by wire throttle that both cars had. Just because you pushed the thottle all the way down doesn't mean the butterfly opens up all the way - It may open up all the way but there may be a lag time between when the pedal hits the floor and WOT. Someime the engine was giving its best performance without the WOT - depending on gear selection and other variables (at least this is what I think and what I felt.)

The 8's DBW is WAAAAAAAAY better than either the VW or the MB- It is acutally quite responsive in comparison (still kind of slow between 1k - 2k - but no big deal) Furthermore the engine revs to 9k and makes power all the way up there so I think opening up the throttle all the way gets a better response - pure speculation on my part here - just a concept.

NO KIDDING - thou I never had a problem, and I had 4 years free maintenance (they kind of make it easy for you there) once the time is up it REALLY costs.

Give you and example. A guy on the MB forum had his alternator go out - parts cost $800 + installation $200 - 400. So between $1000 and $1200 for an alternator change.

What an enlightening thread, you push the pedal to the floor (aka WOT) and the car accelerates faster

Well, I thought about doing that, but I figured 1.) the manual was strait forward enough for me - and its Mazda's recommendation 2.) The car is under warranty, if it fails I take it in 3.) Its a lease, so there is no long term issues I will have to deal with and 4.) I never heard of a car engine failing (unless it was utter abused) do to inproper breakin. I followed the 600 miles rule and raised the rpm gradually as I have done on the 10+ cars I've owned - no problems. :p

I am sometimes a "knucklehead" too. I have spell check for Outllook Express but does not seem to work from this site. Will the spell check you linked work here?

Thanks,

Be aware that the car's computer monitors your driving style and adjusts things accordingly. The more aggressive and harder you drive the car, the more aggressive the engine will become as well. The yellow one, being a demo, was probably driven HARD all the time. Hence with 1500 miles of that kind of driving, it may actually be a little faster. Yours will become even faster with time, mine has.

But see, all your worries about HP were for nothing. I was going to respond to your "bummed" thread, but they shut it down (with good reason). Let me just say, there are hundreds (maybe thousands) of threads on the HP topic (and I don't want to start another one here). So many in fact, that I doubt anyone new to this board could easily find and read all of them. But let me highlight a few findings that could make you feel better:
(1) Regardless of what the real HP is, the car performs, and that's the bottom line.
(2) Although many believe the car may make less hp than the advertised 238, it's never been proven, and there's also some evidence to suggest otherwise as well.
(3) Mazda had also issued a statement that the car's hp to the wheels can't be properly dyno-ed for various reasons. Which one can choose to believe or not.
(4) Go back to point (1).

I'm surprised that it took until the 19th post for someone to say this!
