Talking Air Con inefficient @ 33 Deg Fahrenheit!

The following is a story I found amusing from my wife about her trip home in the RX-8 during yesterdays Seattle winter 'storm'.

So she was in traffic for 2 hours moving 2 miles -- this was due to slight snow falling/sticking on the ground. Ambient temperature was ~ 33 Fahrenheit outside. Around 1.5 to 2.0 hour time point, she had already turned off the heater/seat warmer, but continued to feel immense heat from the footwell. This heat continued to the point that it was necessary to utilize the air conditioner ! Furthermore she mentioned that the AC, instead of blowing cold air, was blowing warm air for about 5 - 10 minutes creating an even warmer atmosphere in the cabin .

Anyhow thought this was a humerous story regarding the RX-8s ability to generate such heat in traffic during winter times.

Whilst I am unsure on your 19th century fahrenheit, the mention of snow must mean you are getting near 0`c.

Gotta love that rotary exhaust with its 600`c exhaust temps. This problem has been noted before. Going back around 17 years now with the start of JC Cosmo production

My 1995 20B-REW Cosmo has that very issue with free feet warmer installed thanks to twin turbocharged exhaust manifolds running under your feet. Requires AC on most times.on long trips.........

you mean people actually live outside the states? and the states aren't the center of the universe? why wouldn't everyone just adopt everything we do and do it right so we don't actually have to do any work or think about changing?

just in case any of that was lost with the fact that this is the internet and tone of voice is hard to cast when written, i'm being completely facetious. since it was a funny thread to start with i thought i'd just throw in a little jab at us here in the states.

He did, and he used it as appropriately as a character from Dickens. Now where he puts his Ipod in the horseless carriage that he driving is more of a question?

using it appropriately to point out that we are still in the 19th century using terminology that we should know since we are from that period.

um, it's the 21st century.

and yes - 0 c = 32 f. but from there it gets all f'in crazy, with more math than I'm inclined to remember, let alone actually work out . . .

F8ck celsius, and the metric system!!

the point being that the US is still in the 19th century b/c we are archaic and never stepped into the 20th century, let alone the 21st century, if we're still not using metric.

The French use the metric system - enough reason for me not to.

When I got my engineering degree 23 years ago, the first thing I had to do was stop using the metric system. No one outside of the military and US gov. use it.

SI system, Soccer, World Bank, UN, World Trade Org. - It's all started by people who "think" they know better than us Yanks. But while they were ruled by Kings, then socialism, and now their "improved version" of democracy, we are still working with our original 200+ year old approach. And still going strong.

DMRH doesn't need any help condemning the US. He usually does it plenty well on his own.

At 50 degrees F outside temperature I'm very cold, with heating off, windows up. The interior will never heat up under such conditions through radiant engine heat alone, nevermind 33 degrees.

This had everything to do with the heater being left on and not turned off before things got too toasty inside. It can happen with any vehicle.

If god wanted us to use the metric system, Jesus would have had 10 disciples.

600°C exhaust? Try 800° to 1k°C!

Americans.............

Too scared to come out of the 1800's with their measurement system, but will happily get in your face on how they are the most technically advanced country in the world.

Ignoring that little Mars probe incident of course, or have they invented a binary system of 1.2 0 1.2 0 1.2 to prevent it............

And the problem there is what exactly? Miles inches and pounds work and we ARE the most technically advanced country in the world.
When your country hits 300 million and can still support the per capita milesones that America does, come back and see us.

The system was established.
It is the "new" system that caused the problem.

What happened to the A/C issue? I have heard of a problem with the temp selector **** on some of the 8's. It will work only in cold or hot ,nothing inbetween. Have you had this checked?

Yes, that was most amusing—very humorous. You should really send that in to Letterman—I mean, I thought Lewis Black had some amusing stuff, but he's got nothing as funny as this! Now stop—you're killing me!!!

Yeah, actually when the car was purchased new in 05 (05 model), the **** was already broken, so it was replaced a while back though still functions properly. I don't really consider this an A/C issue though since rarely are we struck in traffic for that long & distance. Merely a testament regarding the rotary engines heat.
