As I 've replaced the air filter, I've noticed that the filter which came out was very different from the genuine one. I suspect it's not genuine. Here are the comparison pictures. (The pink on the right is the genuine one, of course)

Could Mazda have ever produced such a part? Is this part genuine or not?

 

Where did you buy it? Do you still have the box? Was it a Mazda box?

The previous owner had it put on the car so I don't know where it is bought and don't have the box. One more thing about that filter: It's about 5mm less thick than the original (can't be easily realized on photos)

 

Is this the engine filter or the cabin filter (located in the glove compartment)? There were two different types made for the cabin filter. A normal paper filter and a allergen filter.

 

there are two different filters, Mazda Japan supplies an N3H1-13-Z40, and Mazda USA supplies the N3H1-13-Z40-9U.

the Japanese one is made in japan, and is usually red/pink. the 9U is usually Chinese and white.

early on Mazda USA supplied the Japanese one.

so the answer is yes, it is, although since the genuine one in the US is Chinese anyways, it doesn't matter

 

Thank you for the answers. I became too much interested in the genuinity of the parts after I bought 4 fake coil packs last month.

The engine air filter is surely not so much important as the coils, but still I wanted to know.

I got the MANN filter. I did a research and found out that the MANN filter is the oem filter for the rx8. I might be wrong, but when i changed the air filter, the old filter was pink, but the MANN filter is white, but it fits perfectly...

 

from time to time Mazda change manufactures on the air filter. white, pink, doesn't matter.

 

Mann is german, they are not the OE for Mazda...

 

Your OE filter looks the same as the one I just pulled from my 8.
