Airbag Recall Beware!!

Airbag Recall Beware!!
This is on another thread, but just in case I'd like to make everyone aware of it. Several of us have had the STAY DAMPER broken during recall. The recall notice and repair they receive has the instruction and warns of the fragility of this damper. Many dealerships may break it and not say anything, as did mine and others, so before taking your car in, either make them aware of it, or check your glovebox right away. I guess mine thought I wouldn't notice, but thanks to this site I realized it fast, and they definitely broke mine. They are ordering a new one for me, so get on them if yours is broken. Check the link below.

hello I just wanted to add one more comment about the air bag, we have done alot and only broken 1 (it was our very first one, a stock unit, which we did replace the piece). but the reason I am writing this is because I would like to remind everybody that brings their car in to please leave the master key, or leave the glovebox unlocked, we need to open it to do the recall, we have had quite a few customers who leave the valet key, then leave the dealership then have to drive all the way back to leave the master key. o please do this first at whichever dealer you take it to. THANKS!!

I taped a copy of the page from the TSB to the glovebox door. Highlighted where the diagram said careful and hand wrote request to take care since the part is easy to damage. Maybe they already knew how to do the repair without breaking the stay but happy to say that the stay still works.

Five Star Mazda in Macon, GA has given me nothing but awesome service and I did not buy from them, I walked out on the deal because the sales MGR was being unreasonable. He didn't think I would buy somewhere else. Too bad my sales experience didn't match their great service dept.

Just got mine repaired today along with the hotter plugs and the re-flash.
Ironically a Mazda survey came today for the first visit were my airbag recall was done and the damper was broken. There is a comment section to give feedback to Mazda about your warranty work. Use this to let them know your opinion.

I just went to check my glove box and it fell (no damping) as soon as I opened it. I just want to double check that so if that happens (my glove box dropping as soon as I open it), it means that it probably was broken by the airbag recall.
Wanna double check because I am going to have that service guy's head tomorrow when I go back with the sentance "ORDER A NEW PART FROM MAZDA PDC." HIGHLIGHTED in blood
like WTF? so how many people had theirs broken and the service dept just handed their keys back without a word??? I mean personally I don't really care if the glove box drops (happened in all the cars I've owned), but the idea of someone getting a WARRENTY RECALL service and having something broken in the process and the tech just saying OPS, I HOPE HE WON'T NOTICE THAT I BROKE A PART OF HIS CAR, is just totally unacceptable. I feel like I've been taken like a fool that they think I won't notice they didn't BREAK a part of my car (and I wouldn't if I didn't go on this forum). *(CK the more I think about it the more I'm pissed now.
*end rant*
PS: so yea just to confirm, if my glove box drops = damper broken? and how many of you had it broken and the dealer said NOTHING or said something?

Rotary- yes if the box drops - the damper is broken.
Mine was broken- just got it fixed today
They said nothing to me - I only found out when an alert forum member pointed out in another thread that theirs had been broken. I love this forum-
It's sort of rotten on the part of the service department to notice they have broken a part and not say anything. They had to know about mine because a piece actually broke off so someone had to toss it out !

Exact same story with me at Manhattan Mazda- they broke it- said nothing, and it was only after reading here I realized to check it. They even want me to come for them to see it before ordering THE pART- that I have to to make them do at leAST

well, I went back with the bullentine printed out and highlighted and talked to the service manager. He appologised and he was upset himself at whichever tech that did it (which he'll find out). Ordered in the parts for me. But nothing other than an apology which was enough for me, I mean the manager probably didn't know about it. But now my question is, when the part comes in, should I have the same ppl install it? I mean the tech probably got worked over by his manager and probably wouldn't be too happy to see my car again.....
